The Torrance Unified School District consists of 17 elementary, 8 middle, 4 high schools, 1 continuation, and 1 alternative high school. The District also has 3 adult school campuses. Torrance Unified was established in 1947 and unified in 1948, and is nestled in the heart of the South Bay, in the southwestern part of Los Angeles County. Our District is bordered by the Palos Verdes Peninsula on the south, the beach cities - Redondo, Hermosa, and Manhattan Beach - to the west, and the cities of Lawndale and Hawthorne to the north. The District serves the entire City of Torrance and is governed by five school board members from five trustee areas. Requirements / QualificationsFILING DEADLINE: OPEN UNTIL FILLED District Classified application and supplemental form must be submitted to the Personnel Commission Office. SELECTION PROCEDURE: This is a PROMOTIONAL and OPEN recruitment to establish an eligibility list, fill vacancies and hire substitutes. Substitutes work on an as-needed basis to fill in for absent employees. The eligibility list will be used to fill permanent vacancies which may occur during the life of the eligibility list. In a promotional and open recruitment, the promotional list shall take precedence. When the promotional list contains fewer than three eligible and willing employees, certification of additional ranks shall then be made from the open list. Positions in this classification may be part-time or full-time (17.5-40 hours per week), 10 months per year, 196 days. The recruitment process will consist of a written examination and an oral technical interview. Testing may occur on a weekly basis. Qualified applicants will be notified by US mail or email.
