The Backorder Clerk is responsible for monitoring, managing, and resolving backordered items within the distribution center. This role ensures timely communication with internal departments and customers, coordinates fulfillment solutions, and maintains accurate backorder records to support operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Monitor daily backorder reports to identify and track outstanding orders.Investigate root causes for backorders, including inventory discrepancies, shipment delays, and system errors.Coordinate with Purchasing, Receiving, and Inventory Control to expedite item availability.Communicate regularly with Customers, Sales and Distribution teams regarding backorder status and estimated fulfillment dates.Update and maintain accurate records in the Warehouse Management System (WMS) or ERP system.Generate reports and provide updates to leadership on open backorders and resolution timelines.Collaborate with warehouse staff to prioritize picking and shipping of newly available backordered items.Participate in continuous improvement efforts to reduce backorder frequency and cycle times.Perform other related duties as assigned by leadership.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment, follow standardized work, and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement environment.Must be able to focus on the task at hand and pay attention to details.Proficient in DataFlo system (or equivalent) ERP system.Must be able to rotate to all functional areas.EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS & EXPERIENCE
1 to 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment and experience as a machine operator (preferred)High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.1–2 years of experience in warehouse, logistics, or inventory control preferred.Prior experience working with WMS or ERP systems (e.g., DataFlo, Epicor) is a plus.Skills & Abilities:
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Outlook).Ability to analyze data and identify trends or discrepancies.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.Team-oriented with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.Physical Requirements:
