Backend Engineer (Senior)

**CTG is seeking to fill a Backend Engineer (Senior) opening for our client.**
**Location:** Remote
**Duration:** Ongoing Contract
**Duties:**
+ Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend systems using PHP 8.x frameworks (Laravel, Symfony).
+ Build and optimize RESTful APIs, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
+ Manage and optimize relational databases (MySQL/MariaDB, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
+ Collaborate across teams to support the full software development lifecycle: planning, implementation, testing, code reviews, QA, deployment, and monitoring.
+ Develop and maintain ETL pipelines using Apache Airflow.
+ Implement caching strategies (Redis, SingleStore, Memcached) to improve application performance.
+ Ensure system observability with tools such as Sentry, Sumologic, Datadog, and New Relic.
+ Deploy, manage, and monitor applications in AWS environments (EC2, ECS, RDS, Lambda, S3, SQS).
+ Leverage containerization and orchestration (Docker, GitLab, Terraform) for scalable infrastructure.
+ Apply security best practices for web applications and data protection.
+ Support search capabilities with Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Solr.
**Skills:**
+ Strong expertise in PHP 8.x frameworks (Laravel, Symfony).
+ Advanced knowledge of relational databases.
+ Deep understanding of RESTful API design principles.
+ Proficiency with Git, CI/CD workflows, and containerized applications.
+ Familiarity with caching, search, and ETL pipeline technologies.
+ Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
+ Solid understanding of observability and monitoring tools.
+ Knowledge of AWS cloud services and infrastructure automation.
**Experience:**
+ 5+ years of professional server-side development.
+ 5+ years of experience with relational databases.
+ Hands-on experience with full SDLC, observability, and deployment pipelines.
+ Proven experience building and scaling backend applications in production environments.
**Education:**
+ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
**Good to Have:**
+ Experience with Cloudflare’s edge computing (Workers, Containers, CDN).
+ Exposure to AI/ML integration in production systems.
+ Familiarity with Laravel Octane and Swoole.
+ Frontend development experience with React or modern JavaScript frameworks.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $100K to $115K. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. In addition to salary, a competitive benefit package is also offered.
