Data Engineer - Azure Focus

Location: London, United Kingdom (Flexible Hybrid Working)
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time

A leading global consultancy is hiring a Data Engineer to join its high-performing Data Management practice. This role is central to delivering cloud-first data platforms for major financial institutions, particularly within the banking sector.

You will play a hands-on role in designing and building modern data pipelines, working closely with architects, analysts, and client stakeholders to enable secure, scalable, and high-performing solutions using the Azure ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

*

Design, develop, and deploy data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Synapse Analytics
*

Implement robust ELT/ETL frameworks to ingest, transform, and deliver structured and unstructured data from diverse sources
*

Collaborate with data architects and business teams to deliver scalable solutions that meet performance, governance, and security requirements
*

Build and optimise data models and lakehouse structures for analytics and reporting
*

Use Azure DevOps, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines to manage and automate deployments
*

Contribute to cloud data migration and modernisation projects
*

Ensure data quality, lineage, and observability using best-in-class tools
*

Support documentation, testing, and handover of solutions to operations and client teams

Ideal Candidate Profile

*

4+ years of experience in data engineering, ideally in consulting or enterprise environments
*

Hands-on expertise with Azure Data Services, including:

*

Azure Data Factory
*

Databricks
*

Azure Synapse Analytics
*

Azure Data Lake Storage (Gen2)

*

Experience with SQL, Python, and Spark
*

Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD practices
*

Knowledge of data modelling, performance tuning, and data security
*

Financial services or banking industry experience is a strong advantage
*

Comfortable working in Agile delivery environments
*

Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement capabilities

Desirable

*

Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g., DP-203: Azure Data Engineer Associate)
*

Exposure to data governance platforms like Unity Catalog, Purview, or Alation
*

Experience working with tools such as Power BI, Informatica, or SSIS
