CTG is seeking to fill an AWS Redshift Database Administrator (DBA) opening for our client in Newark, NJ. Location: Remote Duration: 12 months Duties: Manage day-to-day administration of Amazon Redshift clusters, including user access, permissions, and security configurations. Monitor database performance, analyze query workloads, and optimize Redshift cluster performance using workload management (WLM) and query tuning techniques. Perform backup, snapshot, and recovery operations to ensure data integrity and availability. Handle cluster resizing, scaling, and maintenance tasks such as vacuuming and analyzing tables. Troubleshoot ETL/ELT processes and optimize data ingestion workflows integrating with Amazon S3, Redshift Spectrum, and Athena. Automate DBA tasks and workflows using Python and orchestration tools like Airflow. Implement security and compliance configurations including IAM roles, VPC security, and data governance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA). Support Redshift Serverless design, deployment, and best practices. Use CloudWatch to monitor Redshift clusters and set up alarms for proactive issue detection. Collaborate on AWS account design and management alongside other AWS services such as Lambda and Glue. Assist in disaster recovery planning with cross-region strategies. Maintain data retention policies, partition management, and schema design best practices in Redshift environments. Skills: Expertise with Amazon Redshift administration, including traditional and serverless architectures. Strong SQL skills with deep understanding of database design, schema management, and data distribution strategies. Proficiency in performance tuning, query optimization, and workload management. Familiarity with AWS ecosystem tools such as Lambda, Glue, Airflow, and CloudWatch. Ability to automate DBA tasks using Python scripting. Knowledge of security best practices for AWS and Redshift, including IAM, VPCs, and compliance frameworks. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills related to ETL workflows and data ingestion. Understanding of data lake architecture and integration with Redshift. Experience: Minimum 6 years overall experience as a Database Administrator. At least 3 years of hands-on experience working with AWS services. Minimum 2 years of focused experience managing Amazon Redshift clusters and related services. Proven experience with Redshift backup, recovery, scaling, and security configurations. Experience with automation, monitoring, and alerting using AWS CloudWatch and scripting tools. Exposure to data governance and compliance in cloud data environments. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained.
