Human Resource Contact: Jen Shirley /jennifer.shirley1@wyo.gov/ 307-777-6385 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level. + Provide consultative support, technical assistance, and program guidance to service providers in school districts and child development centers through training, emails, and phone support. + Supporting Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students and providers by analyzing and utilizing data specific to D/HH students. + Participate in state and national events and boards related to the education of students with hearing loss. + Participate in events and initiatives to support family engagement and early childhood hearing loss incidence and management. + Provide support to the Special Education Programs Division for general supervision duties, including monitoring and professional development. + Assist in and support the goals, mission, and initiatives of the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE). + Ensure WDE has state articulations to fully implement federal IDEA. + Attend trainings and all staff meetings to understand the primary goals and initiatives of the department. + Link district personnel to Wyoming Department of Education staff who can provide information on specific questions or needs. Qualifications PREFERENCES: A bachelor’s degree in deaf education, certified teacher of the deaf, ASL interpreter, speech language pathologist, audiologist, or other closely related field. Preferred: a master's degree and at least 5 years of experience working in the field of Deaf Education, from birth through 21 years of age. KNOWLEDGE: + The ability to communicate effectively with deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals, demonstrate knowledge of hearing loss, and interpret audiograms. + Have basic knowledge of relevant technology, including remote microphones, sound field systems, hearing aids, bone-conducted hearing devices, and cochlear implants. + Know the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, with the ability to discuss Individualized Education Plan (IEP) content. + Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, professional demeanor and appearance, and the ability to maintain professionalism and impartiality when working with constituents. + Must be self-motivated and capable of independent work (e.g., contacting schools, scheduling appointments) while recognizing when to seek guidance and information from team members or the SPED division. + Be aware of the responsible use of public funds and the knowledge of resources available at the Deaf/Hard of Hearing library in Casper. + Competency with computer skills for email, document creation, tracking technical assistance, developing presentations, and setting up virtual meetings/workshops (Good Meet or Zoom). + Physical ability to travel and a willingness to work collaboratively as a team player.
