The Automation Operator is responsible for activities to include operating the vacuum former and automation that heats, forms sheet into tubs, then conveys tubs to automation that trims and assembles tubs. They will set up the machine to specifications, load sheet or other components for automation, perform quality inspections per operations control plan, capture product samples for Quality Checks, perform regular, and preventive equipment maintenance, document performance metrics, and report out. The Operator owns and is accountable for the entire process and will rotate among 3 positions within the cell.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)
Work safely while performing job duties
Start up and shut down machines (vacuum former and automation)
Set up machines using specifications defined at time of PPAP by part number.
Replenish materials from Kanban locations to automation inputs. (sheet, bases, glue, etc.)
Load sheet into vacuum former /remove empty cartridges. (hilo license required)
Recover vac former and automation from any line shutdown. Respond to ANDON lights/ buzzers for any process deviation. Recover product and system. Analyze failure mode, follow escalation plan, confirm corrective action and restart machines.
Perform in process inspections and make quality decisions. Optimize process using measured product data or visual PQR assessments.
Use SMED principles to change tools and fixtures for different production runs.
Perform regular and preventive machine maintenance
Obtain product quality samples.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience/Skills:
Previous experience in a production environment
High School graduate or GED preferred
Ability to interpret reports & analyze data
Gain powered industrial truck (forklift) certification within 3 business days
Must be able to:
Work independently, make decisions, communicate with others
Work with a high degree of accuracy and with attention to detail
Lift, bend and reach, including below waist level and above shoulder level
Lift, push and pull weights of up to 60lbs frequently
Use hands to manipulate parts and machine controls
Use vision to read labels and inventory sheets
Climb ladders and stairs, walk on narrow and elevated platforms
