Automation & Equipment Engineer Intern

The Position:

Veracyte is seeking an exceptional candidate for a summer internship in the Automation and Equipment Engineering teams. The Automation team is responsible for designing, programming, implementing, and maintaining complex automated methods to support cancer patient diagnostics. Additionally, the Equipment Engineering team is responsible for the calibration, verification, validation, reliability, and repair of common and complex equipment within Veracyte’s laboratories. This role is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on, applied skills in the cutting-edge field of Laboratory Automation and Equipment Engineering, gaining experience with industry-leading equipment and tools. The role will be part time, 20-30 hours a week, for approximately 12 weeks from June-September at our labs in South San Francisco, California.

What You’ll Do:

The successful candidate will work as part of the team developing automated NGS diagnostic tests and performing fleet maintenance activities. The role will help the Automation team fully establish its Build Room and spare parts program, assist in lab activities including the hands-on testing of new automated methods, and participate in advanced repair and maintenance techniques for laboratory equipment. Additionally, there will be opportunities to be involved in different aspects of lab equipment implementation such as common qualification procedures, 3D design and printing, and script programming.

Who You Are:

Keenly interested in the intersection of applied science and mechanical engineering, you are currently enrolled in a STEM baccalaureate degree program (sophomore or higher) with minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. You have excellent interpersonal communication skills, organizational skills, and computer and software skills. You are comfortable learning something new every day and communicating with Engineers, Scientists, and non-scientists alike. You have demonstrated the ability to problem solve and proactively collaborate with peers. In previous roles you were known for your high attention to detail and dedication to customers and/or patients. You are seeking a role where you can contribute at your highest level, learn and build your skillset, and be a part of new emerging technologies that improve patient outcomes. Candidates must be able to work from 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday in our South San Francisco, CA laboratory facilities.

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Veracyte is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.

Pay range$25—$30 USD
