Automation QA Engineer – Contract Role (Markham, ON) Location: Markham, Ontario, Canada Onsite Requirement: 4 days per week Contract Duration: 6 months to start, with high potential for extension Experience Level: Expert About the Role We’re seeking an experienced Automation QA Engineer with deep expertise in UI automation using Selenium with Java and API testing using REST. This role is ideal for someone passionate about building robust automation frameworks and ensuring the highest quality in web and API-based applications. Description Automation QA Engineer with strong experience in UI automation using Selenium with Java and API testing using REST. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated test frameworks, ensuring high-quality delivery of our web and API-based applications. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities: • Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts for UI applications using Selenium WebDriver with Java. • Build and execute automated tests for RESTful APIs using tools/frameworks such as RestAssured or similar. • Collaborate closely with developers, product owners, and business analysts to understand requirements and acceptance criteria. • Integrate automated tests into the CI/CD pipeline (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar). • Perform root cause analysis on failures, log defects, and work with the development team to ensure timely resolution. • Develop reusable components and frameworks to improve automation efficiency and scalability. • Participate in code reviews for test automation scripts and ensure adherence to best practices. • Contribute to test strategy, planning, and estimation activities. • Maintain test documentation and provide regular progress reports. ________________________________________ Required Qualifications & Skills: • 3+ years of experience in QA automation with a strong focus on Selenium WebDriver + Java. • Hands-on experience with REST API testing (e.g., RestAssured, Postman, or similar tools). • Proficiency in Java programming for automation test development. • Strong understanding of QA methodologies, test strategies, and software development lifecycle (SDLC). • Experience with build tools (Maven/Gradle) and version control (Git). • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent). • Good knowledge of test reporting frameworks (TestNG, JUnit, Allure, Extent Reports, etc.). • Strong debugging and analytical skills to troubleshoot issues effectively. • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. ________________________________________ Nice to Have (Preferred Skills): • Experience with BDD frameworks (Cucumber, Serenity, etc.). • Familiarity with cloud testing platforms (e.g., Selenium Grid, BrowserStack, Sauce Labs). • Knowledge of performance testing tools (JMeter, Gatling, etc.). • Exposure to Docker or containerized test execution. • Basic knowledge of databases (SQL) for test data validation.
