The Cootehill facility is Abbott’s largest global site for infant formula production — processing over 500,000 litres of milk daily, exported worldwide. **🎯 Role Overview** As an Automation Engineer, you’ll help design, implement, and optimize cutting-edge automation systems that support efficient manufacturing and compliance with industry standards. You’ll work cross-functionally to deliver impactful projects that enhance productivity and ensure the continued excellence of Abbott Nutrition’s operations. **🧰 Key Responsibilities** + **System Design & Optimization** + Design and develop automation solutions to increase efficiency and support production goals + Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for proposed systems + Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of automation equipment and software + **Project Collaboration & Planning** + Partner with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to define project scope and objectives + Develop detailed project plans including timelines, budgets, and resource needs + **Operational Technology & Support** + Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to automation equipment, software, and networked systems + Ensure automation systems comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and internal policies + Maintain and support SCADA, Siemens PLCs, and OSIsoft Pi systems + **Training, Documentation & Compliance** + Provide training and support for end-users on system operation and maintenance + Create and maintain user manuals, maintenance protocols, and project reports + Stay current with evolving technologies and apply best practices across automation disciplines **🎓 Qualifications** + Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field + Minimum 2+ years of experience in automation or control systems, ideally in manufacturing or regulated industries + Familiarity with FDA cGxP, 21 CFR Part 11, and GAMP software validation is desirable + Knowledge of standards such as ANSI/ISA-S88, S95, PackML is advantageous + Exposure to Siemens PLCs, SCADA, and data historian systems preferred **💡 Skills & Attributes** + Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills + Strong communicator able to simplify complex technical topics + Team-oriented and comfortable collaborating across departments + Proactive learner who adapts quickly to new technologies An Equal Opportunity Employer Abbot welcomes and encourages diversity in our workforce.
