Automation Engineer

Note: US Citizenship Required 

As an Automation Engineer, a typical day might include the following:

Further develop and maintain a detailed understanding of electric power systems and how to protect, monitor, and control the power system.Assist in developing control system specifications, network diagrams, and automation controller code.Assist with application literature, instruction manuals, and data sheets.Provide automation engineering and system engineering support for customer applications.Assist in writing and reviewing innovative power system control solutions to present to customer.Model, teach, and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.


Required Qualifications

B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experienceExcellent technical training skillsWorking knowledge of automation controllers, network switches, and protective relay communication at an electrical utility, industrial plantKnowledge of power system communication methods, protocols, and standardsKnowledge of system networking topologies and infrastructureStrong writing, documentation, and speaking skillsAbility to learn new skills and assume new responsibilitiesAbility to work cooperatively in a team environment


Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of SEL productsKnowledge of Software Defined NetworkingExperience designing control systems for industrial or utility customersKnowledge of power system designExpertise in control drawing layout and control drawing CAD toolsBackground in requirements engineeringTypically 2+ years experience in electric power systems, automation practices, and philosophies

Pay Range Data

Automation Engineer $69,100 -$108,100

We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the salary range may differ if filled at a different level. Our salary ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
