Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
The Automation Engineer is in charge of controls systems design for process improvement, cost reduction and capital expansion projects. Is responsible to manage electrical and controls scope of assigned projects. Lead/participate in project teams and support automation projects assigned into the region by providing technical expertise to manufacturing and control equipment such as HMIs, PLCs, VFDs and electrical panels designing, installing, integrating and deliver controls documentation to different plants.
Key Responsibilities Design, install, integrate, maintain and improve control systems for automated manufacturing equipment Ensure installation and commissioning meet design and operation standards integration Design and improve HMI, PLC, Hardwire and Panel Layouts Create and/or update schematics using AutoCAD Electrical or other CAD software Troubleshoot control systems as needed electrical and pneumatic Provide guidance and train less experienced team members when required Develop and/or revise internal procedures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our processes Monitoring KPIs on compliance Experiences/Education - RequiredEducation.
B.S. in Mechatronics, Electromechanics, Electronic or Electrical Engineering
Work Experience.
2 to 4 years of experience in similar role Previous experience designing and building electrical control panels. Previous experience with automation and control products such as VFDs, PLC/HMIs, RTUs, and SCADA software Ability to program PLCs using ladder logic or other programming languages. Electrical design experience using AutoCAD or other CAD software.
Required skills.
HMI and PLC design, configure and programming experience. Proven experience in use and/or administration of IMS systems. Experience with PID controls and control loop tunning functions Equipment transfer, backup and change management of source code. Experiences/Education - Desired Knowledge of cable connectorization process and equipment. Vision systems programming and integration experience. Knowledge of MES, SCADA and PI systems is a plus. SQL, Power BI, Power Apps and data analytics skills are a plus. Understanding server management and network infrastructure. Project management skills. Fully bilingual (English / Spanish) Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Use of manufacturing intelligence tools Innovation proposals for new technology introduction and understanding. Digital transformation and data analytics mindset, leverage AI tools to increase productivity.
