GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

As a staff auditor, you will learn to conduct independent, compliance, performance, and operations audits of state and local governmental entities; examine multiple and diverse accounting systems, computer systems, and database systems, as well as operating policies and procedures that change with each audit to protect public funds in compliance with federal, state, and local laws as well as rules and regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
+ Must conduct work in accordance with nationally recognized auditing standards, have annual continuing education, and have the ability to testify under oath in a judicial-type environment to defend audit work.
+ Assist in all areas of the audit function: planning, fieldwork, and completion under close supervision.
+ Analyze and reconcile financial information from local government entities and CPA audit reports.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to applicants with a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or statistics.
Preference may be given to applicants with a master's degree in the analytical field. Preference may be given to applicants who are Certified Public Accountants (CPA), Certified Information Systems Auditors (CISA), Certified Internal Auditors (CIA), or Certified Fraud Examiners (CFE).
KNOWLEDGE:
+ Computer skills using Microsoft software and can analyze other computer systems for controls.
+ Understand and make recommendations related to internal controls.
+ Understand government auditing standards or learn them on the job within the first year.
+ Understand and research the Wyoming Statutes.
+ Communicate well with others in person or on the phone and be able to answer questions from local government officials.
+ Auditing class, if not previously completed, must be completed within the first year of employment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Accounting or Finance)
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Auditing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Auditor I
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Auditing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Auditor I

None
