Auditor **Archdiocese of Dubuque** 1 Positions ID: 76542 Posted On 08/01/2025 **Job Overview** **GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES** : The Auditor for the Archdiocese of Dubuque is responsible for conducting audits of financial practices, internal controls, and compliance with applicable laws and Archdiocesan policies at parishes, schools, and cemeteries. This position supports the stewardship of Church resources through detailed review, education, and guidance on best financial practices. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES** : _(The essential functions/major responsibilities listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Conduct on-site and remote audits of parish, school, and cemetery financial records, ensuring accuracy and adherence to internal control policies and procedures. 2. Ensure compliance with Archdiocesan financial policies, federal and state regulations, and tax requirements. 3. Review annual parish financial reports and assist in calculating the Archdiocesan assessment. 4. Provide technical assistance and training to parishes, schools, and cemeteries on payroll, benefits administration, and compliance with employment tax law. 5. Support entities in preparing for the annual Archdiocesan financial report, including general ledger reviews and transactional data submissions. 6. Assist with training sessions for parish, school, and cemetery staff regarding bookkeeping, financial procedures, and best practices. 7. Provide guidance on annual budgeting processes and offer consultative support during preparation. 8. Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive financial and operational information. 9. Perform other work-related duties as requested. **JOB SCOPE:** Position involves varied work situations with regular use of independent judgment. Operates under general direction with moderate supervision. **COMMUNICATION/CLIENT CONTACT:** Frequent contact with both internal staff and external parish/school personnel. Many interactions involve sensitive and confidential matters requiring discretion and professionalism. **SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS** : Knowledge of accounting principles and auditing standards. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and familiarity with accounting software. Ability to travel to various locations throughout the Archdiocese. Commitment to the mission and values of the Catholic Church. **EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE** : Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required. CPA certification preferred or progress toward CPA designation. 3–4 years of auditing, public accounting, or similar experience preferred. Practicing Catholic in good standing preferred. **PHYSICAL DEMANDS** : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Lifts and moves items up to 20 pounds. **WORKING ENVIRONMENT** : Work is primarily performed in an office environment, with occasional travel to parish, school, and cemetery locations. Occasional evening meetings may be required.
