The Associate Vice President, Software Development is a key senior leader responsible for the strategic direction, operational excellence, and talent development of multiple software development teams within Geotab's dynamic Software Development department. You have significant experience leading large, cross-functional teams in the delivery of highly complex Software Development projects.
What you'll do:This role provides critical support to the Vice President, Software Development, translating organizational objectives into actionable technical strategies and ensuring the delivery of innovative, high-quality software solutions that solidify Geotab's position as a leader in the telematics industry. How you'll make an impact Contribute to the strategic direction of the Software Development department by collaborating with executive management to evaluate the long-range impact of new programs and strategies. Drive operational excellence by planning, evaluating, and implementing improvements to business processes and procedures, resulting in enhanced speed, quality, efficiency, and output. Lead, manage, and develop multiple software development teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement, and championing agile methodologies Partner with senior technology leadership to shape and achieve strategic objectives through active participation in high-level discussions and decision-making Champion technical excellence by conducting rigorous design reviews and establishing and enforcing best practices and coding standards across all development teams. Collaborate with business stakeholders and internal departments to define and prioritize the product roadmap, ensuring alignment with market needs and business goals. Establish and refine the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to ensure compliance with government projects, security policies, and industry best practices. Ensure compensation is reviewed in a fair and consistent manner across teams; partner with HR to ensure equity. Provide expert guidance and leadership on complex projects, leveraging deep technical expertise to support team success and overcome challenges Directly oversee the activities and performance of direct reports (Managers and Team Leads), providing clear expectations, support, and accountability. Cultivate a high-performing team by providing clear direction, ongoing coaching, and effective mentorship to direct reports and their teams. Engage in the development of the team by coaching, providing feedback, identifying areas of growth and training opportunities. Collaborate and support employees during the performance management process, meeting KPAs and career development planning. Support Geotab global strategic initiatives. What you'll bring to the role 8+ years experience as leader in fact-paced technical environment. 8+ years experience leading projects and initiatives across organizational boundaries. 8+ years experience collaborating with other business stakeholders and internal departments to establish product roadmap and priorities. 3-5+ years experience managing a multi-level organization, consisting of individual contributors, first and second line managers.3-5+ years experience supporting employees during the performance management process, meeting KPAs and career development planning. Extensive experience in various programming languages (i.e., C, C#, SQL database design, Javascript). Experience working within a technical or engineering organization/knowledge of the high-technology industry. Track record of designing, building and maintaining large, complex, scalable software systems. Working knowledge of at least one of the major cloud providers (Google Cloud, AWS, Azure). Creative mindset with high accuracy and meticulous attention to detail. Strong project management skills; able to identify needs, develop effective solutions and manage projects through to completion. Has a well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and relationship management skills. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including comfort with delivering presentations and training.
