Associate Technical Director- Pavements/ Principal Pavements Engineer

  Role description: 

Arcadis has an opportunity for a passionate and experienced Principal Pavement Engineer / Associate Technical Director – Pavements to join our dynamic National Pavements team in Sydney. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering high-profile projects across Australia, working alongside some of the industry’s brightest minds. Role accountabilities: Providing both technical leadership and technical advice on pavement design as part of the temporary works and permanent works design development throughout the project lifecycle from concept design, detailed design through to construction phase services and asset management;  Developing and producing flexible and rigid pavement thickness designs, rigid pavement detailing and jointing layouts, pavement interface and edge detailing, subsurface drainage details and plans;  Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders;  Representing Arcadis within the wider industry as an ambassador of our capabilities in the market; Working in collaboration with other design teams and disciplines to ensure the integrity and quality of the overall design; Meeting project deadlines and ensuring that commitments and expectations are met;  Coordinating pavement designs with project teams working across multiple offices; Embracing a strong digital work environment and delivery culture; Creating sustainable and innovative pavement solutions; Presentation of pavement design to contractor clients, road authorities and other clients; Liaising with and assisting the Project Manager to ensure commercial aspects can be successfully achieved; Qualification & Experience: 

First and foremost, you share our passion for improving the quality of life and want to be part of city-shaping projects that change the way we move around our cities. You are a chartered civil engineer with extensive experience in pavement design and major project delivery and will come to us with:

Relevant engineering degree or equivalent professional accreditation. Post-graduate qualifications would be an advantage;   Approximately 15+ years’ relevant Australian experience in all forms of pavement design including flexible and rigid pavement types for highways, ports, intermodals, airports, commercial and residential developments;   Expertise in pavement evaluation and rehabilitation design is an advantage but not essential; Expertise in pavement materials is an advantage but not essential; Passion to drive innovation and improvement in pavement design solutions; Excellent client-focus and a sound technical know-how;   Demonstrated ability to lead a small team, with good influencing, motivating and delegation skills;   Competent in the use of Austroads Guide to Pavement Technology series; Sound knowledge of technical specifications from one or more State Road Authorities; Competent in the use of specialist pavement design software such as CIRCLY and TfNSW software such as FPD2, PTL2 and RPD; Experience with other design software such as AutoCAD, FAARFIELD and EverFE would be advantageous; Demonstrated involvement in technical societies in the field of pavements would be advantageous; Demonstrated technical, commercial and delivery acumen; Excellent presentation skills; Demonstrated experience of managing interdisciplinary design interfaces and/or projects; Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and relationship building skills, both internally and externally; Experience preparing fee buildups and proposals for new opportunities; Experience of whole of life cost analysis and pavement optioneering; Experience in delivering high quality drawings and reports (including calculations) for concept (tender design and reference design) and detailed design projects; Demonstrated self-management and proven ability to work independently.
