Associate Scientist I – Bend

Location/Division Specific Information

The Bend, Oregon site is a multi-product and multi-client pharmaceutical development site specializing in developing and manufacturing solid oral dosage formulations of small molecules in preclinical and early phase clinical trials (phase 1 and 2). We are the Solubilization Center of Excellence within Thermo Fisher's Pharma Services Group, and as such, have expertise in such technologies as hot-melt extrusion, spray-drying, and particle size reduction.


How will you make an impact?

The Associate Scientist I provides technical and manufacturing support to the Formulation and Process Development team in the production of pharmaceutical Spray Dried Intermediates (SDI) and Solid Dosage Forms (tablets, capsules, sachets).

What will you do?

Develop skills in assembly, disassembly, operation, and cleaning of process equipment (such as spray dryers, tablet presses, mills, roller compactors, fluid beds, hot melt extruders, and blenders).

Gather experimental data in lab notebooks consistent with company policy and good laboratory practices.

Develop skills in routine powder and tablet characterization.

Maintain cleanliness of equipment, work areas and facility.

Perform general maintenance on research & development (R&D) process and laboratory equipment as needed.


How will you get here?

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferably working toward Associates/Bachelor’s degree in physical science, chemistry, chemical science, material science, engineering, or related field.


Experience

Technical experience in research lab or pharmaceutical industry preferred.

Mechanical aptitude is a plus.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Good work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and a desire to learn.

Ability to multi-task and handle shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Attention to detail and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
