Associate Research Scholar
The SCALE + Lab invites applications for an Associate Research Scholar at the NYU Marron Institute starting in September 2025 . The Associate Research Scholar position is focused on project management, data management and writing, so candidates with expertise in project management of multistakeholder initiatives, data collection and analysis, working across sectors and professional specializations, and writing reports that synthesize complex information are particularly encouraged to apply. About the SCALE + Lab: Led by Senior Fellow and Research Professor Mindy Tarlow, SCALE + Lab offers an action-oriented and collaborative approach to achieving sustainable growth and long-term impact of promising interventions that promote safety, health, and economic mobility. The Associate Research Scholar will participate fully in the Lab’s signature project, the Behavioral Health Emergency Response Initiative (BHERi) (https://marroninstitute.nyu.edu/projects/behavioral-health-emergency-response-initiative-bheri) , coordinating across multiple states, sectors, and specializations that drive long-term outcomes. Under the supervision of the Lab’s Research Scholar, the Associate Research Scholar can expect to: Research, analysis, and data collection and management + Along with our partners, examine and develop evidence for pathways to scaling best practices and policies in behavioral health emergency response. + Assist in the development of data dictionaries, metrics, and data infrastructure. + Conduct literature reviews, synthesize research, and summarize learning. + Assist in crafting a common research agenda and strategy across all of our partners. + Assist with quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, writing, and presentations. Knowledge management and dissemination + Assist with facilitating an ongoing community of practice, identifying topics for problem-solving and information sharing across all partners. + Help develop, manage, and participate in site visits, peer-to-peer learning engagements, and special convenings, both virtual and in-person. Monitoring and reporting + Support grants management, including interfacing with grantees regarding quarterly milestones and with funders on reporting requirements and aggregating data and outcomes. Team support and collaboration + Work across multiple states and types of stakeholders to support the implementation of three-year action plans, including research and evaluation efforts. + Provide project planning and project management support and oversight of a multiyear research effort. + Serve as a point of contact across teams, sites, and stakeholders, supporting efficient internal and external communications. Minimum Required Qualifications : + 5+ years work experience in related areas – public sector, criminal justice, public health (or a closely related field) + Demonstrated knowledge of the fields of justice and behavioral health + Project management experience overseeing complex projects that involve multiple sectors including government and nonprofit + Experience in performance management and data management + Experience monitoring and evaluating intervention programs, especially related to justice and behavioral health + Demonstrated ability to be flexible and responsive to change and to problem solve + Highly organized and detail oriented while not losing sight of the big picture + Bachelor’s Degree in a related field Preferred Qualifications + Advanced degree in related field + Experience with project management software (e.g., Asana) preferred Additional Information: This is a one-year fixed-term position with the possibility of extension. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the compensation for this position is $92,00 – $95,000.
