Associate R&D Imagineer - Electrical Engineer

At Imagineering Research and Development, our mission is to use technology to build new experiences for our Guests and develop innovative tools for Imagineers and the Cast Members who power our parks. R&D is a team of engineers, designers, artists and scientists who share a passion for solving hard problems and building ground-breaking experiences. 

This role will report to the Executive R&D Imagineer, Creative Development.

This is a full-time role.

What You Will Do:

Develop electrical designs that meet functional requirements.

Work independently but also collaboratively in a fast-paced, highly diverse, multidisciplinary team environment that includes external partners/vendors.

Participate in internal design reviews and reviews with external vendors and fabricators

Test and iterate on proof-of-concept designs, evolving requirements and designs as the team learns

Contribute to the culture and community of the WDI R&D Studio

Required Qualifications & Skills:

Portfolio of projects through academic projects/research, internships, and work experience that demonstrate a strong foundation in electrical engineering

Basic analog, digital, and component-level circuit design

Basic understanding of microcontrollers and embedded systems

Familiarity with power supply architectures (linear, switching, buck/boost, etc.)

Familiarity with battery management systems and different battery chemistries

Knowledgeable in the use of electrical test equipment (DMM’s, oscilloscopes, etc.)

Electrical design experience, ideally in robotics or mechatronics industry

Hands-on, rapid prototyping experience, ability to fabricate, test, fix your designs at a prototype level

Expertise in one or more of the following areas:

PCB design experience, preferably Altium or OrCAD

Software: C/C++, Python

3D printing and associated CAD

Control and feedback systems (PID, etc.)

Embedded programming

Motion control systems, motors, and amplifiers

Familiar with various communication protocols (CAN, EtherCAT, SPI, I2C, RS485, etc.)

Embraces flexibility and adaptability as the team learns through prototyping and playtesting, adjusting strategy as needed

Ability to work collaboratively with other technical and creative disciplines

Thinks strategically and creatively to solve challenges

Manages & prioritizes multiple assignments in a highly dynamic R&D environment

Education:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in electrical engineering

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $104,600 to $140,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
