Associate Principal Scientist Advanced Drug Delivery (all genders)
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Are you passionate about advancing drug delivery technologies for challenging oral APIs? In this scientific role, you will drive the development of innovative formulation and approaches, lead in vitro assay design, and shape decisions that impact Bayer’s global R&D pipeline. Join us to help expand our pipeline and accelerate the journey from discovery to development.
You will develop, evaluate, and implement novel enabling drug delivery technologies to support preclinical and clinical development, with a focus on oral delivery of poorly absorbed APIs (bRo5)
In this context, you will provide scientific input and leadership to laboratory teams, scientific communities and global R&D teams
Your responsibilities will include designing, conducting, and coordinating in vitro assays to study transporter interactions, epithelial transport pathways, enzymatic degradation in the GIT, and mucus penetration for novel formulations and excipients
You will explore, characterize, and implement innovative formulation- and excipient-based strategies to expand chemical space and reduce lead optimization cycle times, including external feasibility studies
You will optimize and scale novel approaches, evaluate their developability, and assess suitability for GMP manufacturing
By offering broadened drugability options, you will support research project teams and contribute to lead optimization while mitigating development risks early
You will safeguard product viability by contributing to freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses and IP strategy development
WHO YOU ARE
You hold a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences or a closely related discipline, with several years of industry experience in novel drug delivery systems
You focus on oral delivery of bRo5 molecules such as peptides, PROTACs, degraders, or large small molecules
You demonstrate a strong scientific track record through peer-reviewed publications, patents, and larger conference contributions
Your expertise includes a robust external network and deep understanding of the drug delivery landscape across academia, CROs, and CDMOs
You have a solid knowledge of pharmaceutical R&D and demonstrate sound judgment in CMC-related matters
You excel at cross-functional collaboration through strategic, global thinking and outstanding communication and planning skills
You stand out with your energy, sense of urgency, and ownership mindset, driving innovation and implementation
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, rounds off your profile; good German language skills are a plus
