We are seeking a responsible and highly motivated Research Associate to ensure the timely and accurate genotyping of samples using advanced automation and software tools in a high-throughput molecular marker production lab. This role supports critical product development efforts at the Hawaii Research Center and across Corteva Agriscience. Success in this position requires strong teamwork, effective communication, and interpersonal skills to consistently deliver high-quality data in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
What You’ll Do:
Perform all steps associated with the lab process, including DNA extraction, PCR, and analysis of production data using automated lab equipment and software. This includes, but is not limited to, sample receipt, buffer preparation, prioritization of processes, assay set up, and quality control.Contribute to continuous improvement of lab activities and workflows using established project management methodologies and data-driven decision-making.Assist in inventory management for consumables, reagents, and lab supplies, ensuring timely restocking and accurate record-keeping.Troubleshooting of equipment and process issues; support process optimization in the marker lab by thoroughly analyzing data and presenting findings.Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and cross-functional teams across the Hawaii Research Center and Corteva Agriscience.Take on responsibilities related to lab safety, equipment calibration, and general upkeep as part of routine duties.Identify opportunities for process improvement and develop effective methodologies to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and throughput.Troubleshoot technical and procedural issues, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions to maintain workflow integrity.Plan and manage workload to ensure timely and efficient execution of daily tasks and project deliverables.Make informed day-to-day decisions to balance priorities, manage resources, and meet operational objectives.Collaborate with team members to align on task prioritization, resolve challenges, and support shared goals.What Skills You Need:
Bachelor’s degree in a Natural Science discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry) with at least 2 years of relevant laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Solid theoretical foundation in specialized or technical areas such as chemistry, biology, agricultural sciences, biostatistics, and computer applications.Proficiency in standard office software, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; ability to learn and use software systems for data entry, analysis, and reporting.Experience with laboratory automation systems and processes is preferred.Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and working in varied ergonomic environments, as required by lab operations.Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) accurately.Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.Problem-solving mindset with the ability to troubleshoot and adapt to changing priorities or technical challenges.May be requested to assist in other research sites, laboratory areas, or functional groups as needed.May require flexibility in work schedule, including weekends, second or third shifts, based on operational needs.May require occasional work-related travel for training, collaboration, or support of other facilities.May participate in training new staff or contingent workers and contribute to knowledge-sharing within the team.No relocation or visa sponsorship is available for this position.
