Associate General Counsel

The Associate General Counsel analyzes legal issues; drafts, reviews, revises, and negotiates documents and contracts for internal stakeholders; presents clear recommendations; and assures legal compliance in their assigned area.  The position is primarily involved in the further development and refinement of the Company's contract process but is expected to also assist with human resources and data security matters. Starting Salary Range: $183,143.00 - $189,248.00 This is an in-person position located in Fairbanks, Alaska What you will do Research, analyze, and prepare legal documents to develop effective and accurate contracts and policies. Ensure that the organization’s goals and objectives are achieved according to corporate compliance standards, rules, regulations, and laws. Study, analyze, develop, and propose effective policies and practices as necessitated or requested by the Company, with a particular emphasis on supporting the contracting function and the Human Resources department. Advise relevant figures in the organization on complex transactions and situations to avoid legal problems, including assisting primary leaders with regard to environmental, workers compensation, and risk assessment. Study, analyze, and offer advice and recommendations when developing internal policies for departments. Practice law involving contract drafting, review, negotiation, disputes and various other issues. Support contractual processes of and ensure compliance with particular identified long term service contracts of a complex nature. Support General Counsel on an as-needed basis with respect to regulatory, governance, and compliance. Maintain a good working relationship with executives, directors, co-workers and the general public. Conditions of Employment Must pass a pre-employment drug test, random drug test thereafter in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities. Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska. Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska. Eligibility to work on a military installation includes compliance with Department of Defense mandates with respect to employee background and health directives. Qualifications Education Level: Juris Doctor. Graduate of an American Bar Association accredited school of law. Required 2 years Experience as a practicing civil attorney, with experience in contracts. Required 5+ years Experience as a practicing civil attorney, with experience in contracts and employment law. Preferred Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. (Medium proficiency) Exceptional communicator with internal stakeholders including executives, department heads and co-employees, outside agencies, and governmental officials. (High proficiency) Ability to work collaboratively on cross-functional teams. (High proficiency) Ability to research using proprietary research tools (Westlaw) as well as public resources. (Medium proficiency) Proficiency in written expression (High proficiency) Record of progressive responsibility. (Medium proficiency) Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment. (High proficiency) Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. (High proficiency) Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. (High proficiency) Possesses high ethical standards and integrity (High proficiency) Active Alaska Bar License. Admitted to practice in the State of Alaska, in good standing.
