The Associate Engineer will directly support Procurement, Asset Management Engineering, Parts Warranty, and the maintenance staff. The Associate Engineer will work closely with vendors on technical issues, specification changes, new designs, recalls, and other related technical requirements.

This position will stay abreast of emerging technologies and advise management as to timing and applicability of said technologies with overall impact to organization. The Associate Engineer will lead the effort on testing and implementing programs to reduce expenses and create efficiencies specifically with the tire program, electrical parts, and other relevant components.

Position responsibilities include:

Testing and analysis of bus-related components that involve conventional engineering practice.Applies knowledge and understanding of the various operation of mechanical and electrical system impacts to overall vehicle safety and cost efficiency improvement.Uses appropriate tools to determine system inadequacies and opportunities for optimization. Understands regional requirements as well as correct test procedures and can conduct testing without assistance.Applies understanding of innovation skills and approaches. Takes initiative to generate new ideas within scope of responsibility. Seeks perspectives of others when solving problems or improving processes. Seeks advice when considering risks. Demonstrates willingness to consider new possibilities.Determines the root causes as well as broad implications of issues. Integrates information and defines an array of alternatives. Applies a wide variety of analytical tools and processes (e.g. Six Sigma) on a regular basis to complete key projects and solve complex problems.Exercises troubleshooting skills for all vehicular systems for mechanical, electrical performance, drivability, and safety.Applies understanding of emissions related systems, and their overall general impact to the corporation and the environment to improving cost and efficiency.Reviews production methods, equipment layout, material handling, and utilization of personnel, equipment and material resources in order to improve operating performance.Offers technical guidance, reviews progress, and advises procedural changes if required.Professionally collaborates and interacts with individuals holding various position levels inside and outside of the organization to establish positive working relationships.Analyzes maintenance with respect to new work methods, employee training, cost control methods and establish work standards and procedures.Reviews and analyzes reports of fuel and fluid consumption, tire costs, equipment road failures, shop work progress and overall maintenance costs.Provides technical direction for a project or a project team.Provides input on program-related decisions and proposes innovative initiatives and projects.Performs systems-related work including computerized maintenance reporting systems, diagnostic software, and standard MS Office product for data analysis and communication.

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.Prior co-op or internship in an Engineering field preferred.General understanding of engineering maintenance concepts, practices, and procedures.Previous experience in automotive-based engineering environment preferred.Prior OEM experience a plus.Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.Exceptional leadership, customer relations, and interpersonal skills to communicate and cooperate with clients and other departments.Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.Experienced with Microsoft Office Suits (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, Word).Must be able to physically inspect all aspects of vehicles and facilities in all weather conditions.Extensive travel (up to 75%) required based on business need and work assignment.
