Associate Director / Sr. Manager - Strategy & PMO

As a strategic partner and trusted advisor to the BU Head, this role will support BU Head to oversee, facilitate, and coordinate BU-level strategic planning, portfolio alignment, and execution governance. The position also need to drive critical strategic initiatives, ensuring smooth coordination across multiple product lines and departments, tracking project progress, and preparing key updates for senior stakeholders. 

 

Working closely with BU leadership and cross-functional teams, the role ensures alignment on priorities, keeps initiatives on track, facilitates decision-making, and strengthens communication flows between the BU Head and internal/external stakeholders. 

 

This position requires a strategic, organized, and collaborative individual with strong project management skills, capable of navigating a complex, fast-changing environment while acting as the BU Head’s “right hand” in strategy execution and operational follow-through. 

BU Strategic Planning & Alignment 

Support the BU Head in designing BU strategy and organizing BU-level strategic to foster alignment across functions and product lines. 

Facilitate the translation of BU strategic priorities into actionable plans, ensuring milestones, deliverables, and accountabilities are clearly defined and tracked. 

Prepare and coordinate strategic reports and updates for Company, International, and Global management teams on behalf of the BU Head. 

 

Portfolio Strategy & Synergy Management 

Coordinate the development and periodic review of BU-level portfolio strategy across multiple product lines, ensuring alignment with AZ China strategy and global priorities. 

Identify and flag opportunities for synergy across product groups, facilitating discussions to maximize business impact. 

Monitor market, competitive, and policy changes, providing timely insights to the BU Head to inform portfolio adjustments. 

Strategic Projects & PMO Leadership 

Oversee BU-level strategic initiatives and transformation projects, ensuring governance, timelines, and performance tracking are in place. 

Facilitate cross-functional collaboration, remove execution barriers, and escalate issues to the BU Head when needed. 

Ensure project progress is regularly reviewed and kept on track, with clear communication of status, risks, and mitigation plans. 

 

Cross-functional Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement 

Serve as a central coordination point between BU leadership, cross-BU teams, corporate functions, and external partners to support seamless execution of strategic priorities. 

Facilitate effective communication between the BU Head and key internal/external stakeholders. 

Coordinate BU representation in global and regional forums, ensuring inputs and follow-ups are well managed. 

 

Resource Optimization & Compliance Excellence 

Assist the BU Head in monitoring BU-level budget utilization, ensuring resources are deployed effectively against priorities. 

Support compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and local regulations in all BU strategy and project activities. 

Academic /Experience:  

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, life sciences, or related field required; Master’s degree or MBA preferred. 

Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in strategy, portfolio management, business planning, or project management. 

Proven experience in supporting senior leadership on multi-product portfolio strategy, cross-functional coordination, and strategic project oversight in a complex matrix organization. 

 

Skills and Competency: 

Strong understanding of the China healthcare market (especially in the biologics sector), policy environment, and competitive dynamics. 

Excellent facilitation, organization, and follow-up skills, with the ability to keep multiple priorities on track. 

Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and problem-solving skills, able to anticipate needs and provide actionable recommendations to senior leadership. 

Proficiency in project management methodologies, governance frameworks, and performance tracking tools. 

High ethical standards, strong compliance mindset, and a commitment to integrity in all activities. 

Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills in Mandarin and English.
