Job Summary

A senior scrum master enables an RBC scrum team to run a medium-to-complex agile development process that seamlessly aligns with business and technical needs. The Senior Scrum Master is a key role within an Agile delivery team as it removes any impediments that obstruct a team’s pursuit of its sprint goals and ultimately deliver a product that generates business benefits for one or several RBC lines of business.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Initiative delivery:Facilitating medium-to-high complexity Agile initiatives from initiation through release, providing oversight to ensure alignment with RBC Agile/Scrum practices, including but not limited to, project kick-off, sprint, release and deployment planningAccountable alongside the scrum team for the achievement of release objectives and results that meet LOB stakeholders’ needs and expectationsManage risks to deliveryTracking and reporting financials for the TeamNavigating and identifying shared IT services required by the team in the delivery of its objectivesTeam activity facilitation (medium to large size teams): Facilitate discussion leading to collective decision-making, goal setting and conflict resolution within the teamRemove impediments to delivery success through the proactive management of external dependencies, medium-to-high complexity team problem-solving and the development of new solutions or approaches to ongoing challenges; has the authority to execute against new approaches and escalate issues through business and/or IT channels where necessaryAccountable for creating and maintaining the appropriate vehicles for open communication within the scrum team (e.g. tracker boards) to create a trusting and safe team environment Continuously seek to improve  team performance by promoting joint accountability for results and solving productivity issuesFacilitating and engaging in business analysis, user experience and technical conversations across  platforms and multiple levels of influence Cross-functional Communication: Communicate cross functionally, ensuring transparency of progress and outcomes; Report team progress and accomplishment up and across; Facilitate status updates, product demos and retrospectivesCoaching: With the assistance of the Agile Coach, provide proactive coaching to the team and recommends continuous improvement  of processes to optimize team productivity

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must-Have

2+ years of experience as a Scrum Master – where Scrum principles, practices and theory were diligently applied5+ years of experience in software development and/or project management and/or business (system) analysis or other relevant professional experience2+ years of working on medium-to-high complexity initiativesExperience working in a dependent multi agile team environmentAgile Framework and Practice (Level 3): Working within and implementing the principles of agile methodology.Business Analysis (Level 2): Investigating and analyzing business situations, evaluating options for business improvements, elaborating and defining requirements and ensuring effective implementation in line with the business needsApplication Development, Support and Maintenance (Level 1): Knowledge and ability to design, define, construct, enhance, support and maintain application software on one or more platforms including web

Nice-to-Have

Basic knowledge of capital markets systems and productsAbility to apply RBC Agile Management Framework and well documented Agile techniques (User Stories, Burndown techniques, Acceptance Test Driven Development, Continuous testing, etc.); SAFe  experience is an asset
