Typical Accountabilities:
• Acts as lead for a significant functional area within Safety, Health and Environment or manages Safety, Health and Environment function at a group of smaller plants
• Contributes to the development, and drives implementation, of operational plans to achieve Safety, Health and Environment strategy objectives
• Ensures Safety, Health and Environment projects are implemented in line with identified AstraZeneca policies, procedures and standards, to achieve agreed scope and cost
• Ensures compliance with Safety, Health and Environment standards and all other work standards within area of responsibility
• Investigates current and future Safety, Health and Environment needs, communicating them appropriately and translating them into specific requirements
• Manages the co-ordination of resources within areas of responsibility within Safety, Health and Environment
• Oversees the introduction of new processes from the identification of business need, through to the timely introduction and formal acceptance of the change by all customers
• Leads individuals within own section of Safety, Health and Environment to deliver the highest levels of performance and maintain employee relations
• Contacts and consults with external regulatory bodies to maximise business benefits
• Interprets national Safety, Health and Environment legislation and company procedures to support Safety, Health and Environment compliance
• Provides clear leadership, direction and development opportunities to own operating teams
• Identifies and leads improvement initiatives and project teams in support of longer term business strategy
• Supports in developing complex Safety, Health and Environment training programmes for own area of the specialist function and to meet legal accountabilities
• Resolves long term, complex issues while assessing the risk to product, people and plant
• Develops and cultivates technical expertise and knowledge within project team or broader Safety, Health and Environment function by disseminating best practices and sharing knowledge across functions and project teams

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• Essential: Degree level or equivalent qualifications; Sound understanding of Safety, Health and Environment and regulatory requirements; Project management, change management and people management skills; Good working knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry; Technical expertise in at least one Safety, Health and Environment area, and competence in several others; Communication skills and ability to influence others; Comprehensive understanding of all relevant legislation, industry practice, and company standards and expectations.; Comprehensive understanding of own Safety, Health and Environment function, as well as a strong understanding of other functions, and how they contribute to achieving the objectives of the business; Comfortable with risk and ambiguous situations
• Desirable: Extensive experience in line management, technical support and project management
