Associate Director, Nationality Rooms and Intercultural Exchange Programs

The Nationality Rooms and Intercultural Exchange Programs (NRIEP) within the University of Pittsburgh is seeking an Associate Director to lead innovative educational and cultural programming while managing the financial operations and personnel of the Visitor Center. This position combines entrepreneurial program development with operational oversight of facilities, budgets, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

Identify, create, and implement innovative educational programming and seek external funding for educational outreach, museum education, and historic site conservationManage financial operations including development and administration of budgets (approximately $500,000), expenditure oversight, and contract facilitationDirect planning for maintenance, restoration, and conservation of the Nationality and Heritage Rooms and associated collectionsSupervise four staff members (two full-time, two part-time) including recruitment, evaluation, and personnel managementRepresent NRIEP internally and externally, maintaining relationships with university stakeholders and Nationality Room CommitteesLead special event planning and implementation in collaboration with diverse community partners

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree with minimum 5 years of experience working in a museum, non-profit, or higher education setting.Experience in education programming, financial administration, and personnel managementExcellent cross cultural communication skillsStrong project management abilities and capacity to handle multiple responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

A master's degree in Museum Studies, International Studies, Education, History or a related discipline

This position offers a hybrid schedule with 5-8 remote days per month depending on workload, with occasional evening and weekend on-campus work required. A resume and cover letter are required. Applications without both documents will not be considered.

• Assists in directing activities related to the daily operations of the University and/or major academic/research unit. Manages multiple, concurrent administrative functions including finance, human resources, payroll, accounting, grants, facility operations, property control, purchasing, and security.
• Facilitates strategic planning for assigned areas and assists in developing and implementing the overall departmental strategic plan and resource allocation.
• Supervises staff, including hiring, distributing and reviewing work, performance reviews, and documenting disciplinary actions and other human resource administration. Manages work schedules and approves timecards. Provides professional development opportunities.
• Establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate success of assigned area of responsibility. Researches and analyzes measured success to develop and implement future programs, policies, projects, and long-range plans.
• Ensures regulatory compliance and fiscal responsibility; controls expenditures and statements of accounts.
• Develops and maintains effective working relationships across University departments and employees.
• Maintains adherence to all regulations for all programs and activities.
