Associate Director, Business Process Analysis

Location: Warsaw, Poland 

Hybrid model of work: 3 days in office,2 remote per week

AstraZeneca’s R&D Data Office is at the forefront of enabling data and AI strategies. It provides comprehensive data services, technology solutions, and data products, underpinned by robust data and AI policy and governance, to extract value from data that propels innovative scientific discovery. 

Focused on impacting the R&D pipeline, the Data Office emphasizes three core areas: advancing data and AI-powered scientific innovation, connecting a digitized R&D value chain, and pioneering best practices in data and AI governance.  

The Position :The Associate Director, Business Process Analysis will be an integral part of Data Office’s Solution Delivery & Transformation team, tasked with upscaling and improving R&D’s data sharing ecosystem and delivery of data services. This ecosystem facilitates efficient and compliant sharing of data within and beyond AstraZeneca to empower the innovative science driving R&D drug development. A core part of this ecosystem are business processes that are being reimagined to achieve greater speed, user experience, simplicity and scale. This will include a shift from manual, to automated and AI-enabled processing and will cover both ‘back-office’ processes associated to data management, governance, creation of AI and analytics-ready data, and also ‘front office’ processes that data consumers (e.g. data scientists) require. 

The Business Process Engineer is crucial to the development of high-quality processes. This position will suit highly collaborative, technically skilled and subject matter experts, capable of independently planning and taking a lead on business process improvement projects. Day-to-day, this will involve understanding business requirements, working collaboratively to analyse and deliver newly proposed data and business process flows and supporting project teams to reach agreements that can take proposals to production. 

The Impact : As an essential role within our transformation team, the Associate Director, Business Process Analysis will directly support the introduction of a data sharing ecosystem that can harness the full potential data to meet the increasing demands of a rapidly evolving AI-enabled landscape central to the continued successful speed of scientific innovation and delivery of the 

Typical Accountabilities 

Analyse and evaluate current processes to identify inefficiencies, gaps, and opportunities for improvement. 

Design and document new processes, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance standards. 

Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to gather requirements and insights needed for effective and optimal process creation 

Apply best practice in process analysis, development and optimisation activities and promote best practice across the Data Office 

Using best practice and notation, create process flow diagrams, and associated guidance documentation to communicate workflows and practices clearly. 

Conduct workshops and training sessions to ensure stakeholders understand newly developed processes. 

Utilize data analysis techniques to support process layout and validation, as well as to identify bottlenecks. 

Utilise best practice BA techniques around process requirement analysis 

Test and validate new processes to ensure they operate effectively before handover to operational teams. 

Collaborate with IT and data management teams to ensure that technical solutions support the created processes. 

 

Essential 

Advanced degree (MSc) or higher in related subject, or equivalent professional skills 

Professional certification in Business or Process Analysis from a recognised body e.g. IIBA or BCS 

Significant experience with Business Process Analysis, Design, Rollout, and Optimisation, both in creating new processes and uplifting existing ones. 

Demonstrable success working on data-heavy data science, AI or analytics projects. 

Significant experience using BPMN to develop and document processes, using standard IT tooling 

Experience planning and running design workshops with cross functional team 

Strong engagement, communication and partner management skills, including excellent presentation and influencing skills 

Experience working on projects in a complex global organization, including collaborating cross-functionally to deliver against objectives. 

Passion and detailed knowledge of latest trends in atest data, analytic and AI  

Desirable 

PhD in related subject 

Pharmaceutical or life sciences industry experience, specifically in R&D 

Experience within a Data focussed team 

Experience in the fields of Data Governance, Data Privacy and Data Access 

Experience using GB TECH BIC platform for storing processes
