Job Description:
This Associate Director role reports to the Head of Capital and Reinsurance Management team and carries broad responsibilities, including leading key capital management activities and processes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g. ORSA) and optimizing internal capital monitoring, reporting and efficiency (e.g. capital forecast and free capital generation). Primarily focused on the Hong Kong RBC framework, the role also strategically oversees LICAT, the Canadian basis. Success in this position requires deep expertise in RBC valuation or ORSA, coupled with strong analytical and problem-solving and communication skills to interpret capital results, identify key underlying drivers, and effectively drive and implement ad-hoc capital initiatives.
Responsibilities
Lead day-to-day capital management activities including monitoring and forecasting capital positions, analyzing capital sensitivities to key risks, setting capital targets, assessing the capital contribution and consumption of in-force and new business, preparing dashboard and board paper with insights for senior management decision, and recommending appropriate actions.
Oversee capital planning and adequacy testing (ORSA) to project capital position over the next 3-5 years under base and various adverse scenarios, identify key risks and recommend mitigation strategies, and enhance the ORSA process to improve efficiency.
Provide expertise guidance on capital matters for pricing, investment and ALM to ensure capital implications are properly assessed and addressed.
Identify and execute capital initiatives to enhance capital efficiency and achieve the company’s capital objectives, for example, exploring capital-efficient reinsurance solutions where feasible.
Strategically oversee LICAT; collaborate across functions, the regional office, and corporate teams while engaging senior stakeholders to drive effective governance and business decisions.
Support other initiatives and address emerging matters when needed.
Qualifications
Qualified actuary - FSA, FCIA, FIA, FIAA or equivalent
10+ years of relevant full-time experience
Prior experience in RBC production or ORSA is preferred
Knowledge of IFRS 17 (e.g. DOE analysis) is a strength
Possess strong technical and problem-solving skills and have strong business sense, with the ability to partner effectively with others while providing strong oversight and constructive challenges
Highly self-motivated with exceptional self-learning ability, capable of learning from previous experience to adapt and improve with minimal supervision and drive for excellence
Excellent communicator and people skills to initiate action among a range of stakeholders
Demonstrated people management capabilities with a strong commitment to talent development
Excellent multitasking capability and strong time and project management skills
