Associate Communication and Engagement Manager

Your Purpose

You connect associates to Harris Teeter’s purpose—Enriching Lives—through powerful internal communications that inspire, engage, and drive action. You bring to life the company’s values through messaging, events, and campaigns that make every associate feel informed, valued, and connected to our mission and each other.

You will lead high-impact content development and communication strategies, working across departments to increase reach, enhance engagement, and deliver experiences that build belonging and pride in the Harris Teeter brand.

 
What You’ll Do

Strategic Communication & Content Creation

Develop and execute company-wide internal communication plans aligned with strategic priorities. Support Corporate Affairs storytelling initiatives by creating compelling, relevant content for internal audiences. Partner with department leaders and HR to translate complex initiatives into clear, associate-focused messaging. Act as editor of the It’s My Harris Teeter (IMHT) newsletter. Write and manage content for the company’s internal social platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.). Write and manage Communications content for the company’s internal associate platform, LiFT. Promote the company’s purpose and values in all communication touchpoints.

Engagement & Culture Activation

Lead communication initiatives that improve associate experience, recognition, and emotional connection to the company. Serve as a trusted consultant to company leaders and HR to support people-driven communications. Lead internal events and engagement campaigns, including support for leadership meetings and company-wide moments. Activate programs that reinforce culture, celebrate achievements, and promote transparency. Partner with HR on the communication of the annual HT Voice associate survey.

Support for Key Initiatives

Serve as a communication partner for HR-driven projects such as onboarding, talent development, and inclusion. Ensure consistent, inclusive messaging across all formats and platforms. Contribute to planning and execution of special projects, recognition campaigns, and training support. Analyze effectiveness of communications and engagement tools; provide feedback and evolve strategies.

What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field. 2+ years of experience in corporate communications, preferably in retail or the food industry. Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills for multiple channels and audiences. Strong business acumen with the ability to advise leaders and influence internal change. Experience managing internal social platforms, intranet content, or newsletters preferred. Strong project management, organization, and collaboration skills. High emotional intelligence, curiosity, and a deep belief in the power of communication to connect and inspire.

Physical Demands

Physical demands include, but are not limited to, high aptitude for standing and walking endurance, sitting while driving to various stores, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling climbing ladders of various types, bending, squatting, and kneeling, and working in different temperatures inside and outside the store
