About the role:
The APAC Fund Finance team is a key and growing part of MUFG’s Asian Investment Banking Division. The team works closely with local relationship coverage teams primarily within Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and India, to provide product expertise across a wide range of fund finance based structures, including subscription finance, net asset value, hybrid and other forms of facilities which utilise fund finance concepts.
Being an international bank with a global fund finance footprint, MUFG’s APAC Fund Finance team benefits from a global product network, leveraging information, structures, and strategies across North America, EMEA and Japan.
The team completes multiple transactions per year, manages a growing portfolio of transactions, and has a mandate for further business expansion.
In your role as an Associate your role is to provide product, jurisdiction, documentation and loan execution support (from a commercial perspective) to the Fund Finance APAC business (Subscription Finance and NAV). The position will contribute to the revenue target and financial success of the Fund Finance APAC business.
What you’ll be doing:
Provide transaction management support and commercial risk management in relation to Fund Finance transactions across APAC (ex. Japan)Structuring, negotiating, review and execution of legal documentation including facility agreements, security documents, fee letters, legal opinions and other ancillary finance documentsStructuring and drafting of term sheets and mandate/engagement documentation in collaboration with Fund Finance transaction team leadNegotiation and ‘ownership’ of loan documentation process including review and driving/supporting negotiation from a commercial perspective and working with external legal counselCo-ordination, support and leadership (as needed) of deal team, driving timely resolution of negotiation, presentation and execution of transactionsAppointment and engagement of external counsel – including negotiation of scope of work.Project management discipline of external law firms and mitigation of law firm feesLoan execution best practice on standardized basis, reflecting local and global precedentsSupport client engagement/interaction including leading/contributing to transaction correspondence with external partiesMonitor, identify and advise on commercial/documentation risks in conjunction with Legal and/or external counsel; summarise risk terms, risks and mitigants as part of the Team’s credit submissionMonitor regulatory changes in APAC, with particular focus on Fund Finance, and work with the Legal and Compliance teams on the impact of such changes in APAC (if any)What we are looking for:
3+ years’ post-qualification experience, with at least 2 years of loan transactions experience within structured financeFund Finance experience preferredUndergraduate Law Degree from a leading university is essentialAustralian / Singapore / UK qualified mid-senior lawyer preferred (can consider other jurisdictions)Proficiency in the full suite of core Microsoft products, with strong financial modelling skillsPossess a strong legal, financial and commercial acumenBe able to engage in independent research and analysis of customers and markets and apply critical thinking and a high level of attention to detailThe ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verballyHas strong interpersonal and presentations skillsIs a team playerIs a self-starter who applies initiative and has drive and enthusiasmHas an analytical mindset and problem solving skillsHas the ability to work independently and prioritise a number of tasks across various work streams and alongside a number of stakeholdersOur culture:
