What You’ll Be Doing

The Capital Markets arm of CIBC provides corporate, government and institutional clients with innovative solutions to help them raise capital,  grow and invest actively throughout North America and key financial centers around the world. To deliver on its vision to be our clients’ preferred capital markets banking partner across multiple products and services, both in Canada and where our core competencies can be exported.  The Capital Markets mission is to bring Canadian Capital Markets products to Canada and the rest of the world, and also bring the world to Canada.

The Global Transaction Banking (“GTB”) is a large, strategic and growing part of CIBC’ Capital Markets business and is comprised of CIBC’s Trade Finance, Cash Management and Correspondent Banking teams. The Trade Finance team provides a variety of risk management and Working Capital Solutions (“WCS”) to the bank’s corporate clients.

As the Associate, Trade Finance, you will be responsible for supporting the development and growth of the Capital Markets WCS business. This role will work closely with Credit Risk Management, Client Relationship Managers, Trading Credit Group, Legal, Credit Processing Services, Anti-Money Laundering, Sanctions, Technology and other stakeholders .

How You’ll Succeed

Credit Underwriting - Provide support and back-up to the Director, WCS, Credit in underwriting and conducting annual reviews of risk within CIBC’s WCS portfolio with a focus on underwriting and maintaining limits for non-client obligors under CIBC’s Global Receivables Purchase Program (“GRPP”).  Actively monitoring the risk profile of various WCS credit limits by identifying any new or changing risks and/or trends, and provide recommendations on how to mitigate such risks. Managing insurance credit limits and interacting with Credit Risk Management, Legal, Client Relationship Management, Operations, Anti-Money Laundering and other stakeholders as appropriate to ensure seamless management of GRPP limits. Support the team in leveraging AI to manage the credit risk of the portfolio. Use AI on an on-going basis to both underwrite as well as monitor the risk portfolio.

Product Management - Support the WCS product managers in identifying and leading new growth opportunities to expand CIBC’s WCS product suite. Developing client/ industry/ regional WCS strategies that are aligned with CIBC’s client focus, geographic footprint and risk appetite. Conducting deal due diligence and structuring, and implementation of WCS solutions as required. On-going program maintenance, annual review and performance management of the existing WCS solution. Leveraging technology, including AI, to support simplification and scaling of CIBC’s WCS, as appropriate. Working closely with the Operations team to process engineer transaction execution and on-boarding processes

Who You Are

You can demonstrate Credit and Industry Experience. Proficiency in financial analysis, with a strong grasp of key accounting considerations. At least 5 years of credit underwriting and trade finance products. Familiarity with different trade finance needs and custom solutions in high growth markets around the world.

You have attained strong understanding of how corporate lending products work in banks as well as various legal concepts. Advanced knowledge of supply chain finance, receivables purchase solutions and  risk mitigation products used in trade finance preferred.

You know that details matter. Extremely dedicated and motivated individual with high career aspirations. Must be capable of assuming high levels of responsibility within short time frames.

You have advanced communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships both internally and external. Strong presenting, influencing and negotiating skills with the ability to concisely convey conceptual information.

You are technically savvy. Knowledge of multiple software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

You can demonstrate advanced problem-solving and decision-making skills: Ability to identify and solve problems, make informed decisions, and prioritize effectively.
