About the role

This role provides a unique opportunity to design and implement software solutions that support critical functions across the entire Prime Brokerage technology stack of Morgan Stanley. Prime Brokerage in Asia is growing, and a constantly evolving business and regulatory environment will provide a stream of challenges for the candidate. The applicant should be a skilled programmer, with strong design and implementation fundamentals. The technology stack that we work with includes Java, Angular/React, relational and non-relational databases. Prior experience in working on projects involving financial markets is highly desirable. The candidate is expected to learn the business domain, work closely with senior stakeholders to understand problem areas, and provide solution.

Business Overview (Prime Brokerage)

Prime brokerage is a suite of services offered by Morgan Stanley to hedge funds, institutional investors, and other sophisticated clients. It encompasses a range of functions, including custody, securities lending, leveraged trade financing, reporting, and risk management solutions. Through its market leading Prime Brokerage platform, Morgan Stanley provides clients access to global markets, tailored technology platforms, and operational support that supports complex trading strategies.

About the Team

The Prime Brokerage Technology team is a global multi-squad Agile team playing a critical role in building solutions to support the core and value-added services offered by the Morgan Stanley Prime Brokerage franchise. The stakeholders include PB Sales team, PB on-boarding team, client services team, Operations and different external participants such as regulators, broker-dealers, agent banks etc. The technology team in Hong Kong is expected to work closely with the stakeholders in the region to understand their requirements and pain-points and build solutions in close collaboration with the global PB Technology team.

5+ years of professional experience as a developer is a must

Extensive experience in developing enterprise level systems using Java / Spring.

Proficiency in Unix environment is expected. Shell/Python scripting is a plus.

Multithreading / Concurrency – Good Exposure in implementing multi-threaded applications.

Proficiency with RDBMS. No-SQL is a plus.

Exposure to messaging and streaming technologies such as MQ and Kafka is a plus.

Exposure to JavaScript framework such as Angular/React is a big plus.

Experience in the financial domain is highly desirable.

Exposure to Test and Behavior Driven Development in agile setup is a plus.
