Associate, ESG and Climate Change (ESCC) Risk

Country: Hong Kong

As an Environmental, Social and Climate Change (“ESCC”) risk associate, you will perform ESG, Climate Risk and transition plan assessments of our CIB clients and transactions, as well as the industries they operate in. ESG considerations are embedded in our credit risk assessment and the “green analyst” will be in close contact with credit teams and relationship managers. In addition to client level assessment, the position requires providing support on industry analysis with a focus on ESG trends and regulatory assessments.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conduct ESG qualitative assessment and integrate findings in the credit rating paper for a more holistic view of the risks.
2. Perform in-depth environmental and social risk analysis for clients operating in sectors covered by Santander ESCC Risk policy and other sensitive sectors
3. Analyze transition plans for selected sector clients for which Santander has communicates decarbonization target.
4. Assess transactions under the Equator Principles IV in coordination with Front Office and Global ESCC Risk team.
5. Review sustainable finance transactions for ESCC risk alignment with EU and local taxonomies (SG, HK, CN).
6. Participate and offer ESCC viewpoints on client profile and transactions in Risk approval meetings/ forums and ESG panels.
7. Develop and maintain local processes and procedures to assess, manage and oversee ESCC Risks.
8. Assure compliance with Regulators demands and expectations across Hong Kong, Mainland China and Singapore.
9. Report ESCC risk metrics to local committees and to the Global ESCC Risk team.
10. Support ad-hoc projects, including training, industry analysis or research.

Basic Requirements

1. Degree in Economics, Business Administration or similar.
2. CESGA certification or similar.
3. 5-7 years of experience in credit risk management.
4. Good understanding of ESG factors and its associated risks.
5. An analytical and learning mindset with capacity to read, analyze and process large amounts of reports and information.
6. Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with other stakeholders within Asia and global teams.
7. Proficiency in MS office applications. Proficiency in macros/VBA would be a plus.
8. Written and spoken English. Cantonese, Mandarin and/or Spanish could be an advantage.
