Assistant Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer

The Assistant Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer has the following duties and responsibilities:
Leadership/Professional Development:
Serve as a mentor to staff in problem solving, decision making and planning activities. Facilitate nursing orientation and internships by working with educators as needed. Lead hospital or system committees, task forces or teams. Demonstrate accountability and responsibility by independently completing projects/assignments on time holding self and others accountable for meeting objectives and adhering to standards. Assist in monitoring nursing sensitive indicators and staffing effectiveness outcomes. Assist with policy development and practice guidelines to support evidence-based care delivery and practice for nursing. Pursues opportunities for personal growth and development through meetings and educational programs.
Professional Project and Operations Management:
Serve as leader in Magnet journey. Assist and provide oversight of nursing care delivery model and utilization of evidence-based research. Develop and promote varied change initiatives to enhance care delivery and professional performance. Assist in day to day operations of all nursing services.
Departmental Operations:
Ensures regulatory compliance standards are met, to include KPI benchmarks and all applicable policies, procedures and processes. Communicates plans and manages change effectively regarding department issues. Provides and promotes customer service (Patient, Employee and Physician Satisfaction). Assesses staff education and competency. Assesses patient safety needs and maintains a safe work environment and processes. Assist in the development of, and compliance with nursing clinical practice guidelines, standards of care and hospital policies and procedures.
Human Resources:
Understand and practice in accordance with Hospital and System policies. Actively engage in recruitment and retention strategies. Support unit practice council progress and/or development. Contribute to staff growth and development plans. Serve as role model and mentor. Recognize staff using Applause and verbal/written feedback. Provide formal and informal feedback to Nursing Directors regarding nursing staff performance. Maintain open, honest and effective communication among caregivers.
Customer and Interdepartmental Relationships:
Actively work to achieve excellent patient, physician and employee satisfaction scores. Use effective interpersonal skills to address patient/family complaints or concerns collaborating with an interdisciplinary team including physicians, staff and families as needed. Promote staff recognition. Lead or participate on teams to resolve problems or improve care involving more than one department.
Strategic Planning/Business Operations:
Provide oversight of operational and capital budgets for assigned departments/service lines. Assist in the budget process and development of nursing strategies to meet organizational goals. Facilitate and support effective scheduling of staff working with directors, house supervisors and staffing office to facilitate flexible scheduling to meet the needs of patients and staff. Monitor staffing productivity, identify and evaluate patient care requirements based upon acuity, staffing matrixes and budgetary guidelines, and monitor staffing variances. Incorporate workforce initiatives for a healthy work environment. Participate in the development of new programs and services to meet needs of patients, physicians and the community. Facilitate provision of equipment/supplies to support patient care and monitor costs and utilization.
Clinical Operations:
Actively participate in PI processes. Monitor for regulatory compliance and patient safety initiatives providing feedback as needed. Independently problem solve and meet needs of patient population. Participates in system task forces to standardize clinical processes.

Professional Experience/Qualifications:

_Education and/or Experience:_
* Bachelor's Degree Nursing required
* Master's Degree in healthcare or business related field required; or Master's degree in Nursing required
* 5 Years hospital management experience required
* RN - Registered Nurse required upon hire
Certification in Nursing Administration or clinical specialty preferred upon hire
* Experience in Graduate Medical Education Preferred and
* Creative and strategic thinker with high ethical standards. Sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, with a strong operational background. Articulate and able to interact successfully at all levels, strong conflict resolution skills.
