The starting salary range for this position is $24.11 - $27.72, depending on qualificationsUnder the general direction of the Manager, Golf Course Maintenance, responsible for overseeing maintenance work of the City-owned golf course. Works a varied shift including weekends and holidays. Hours subject to change. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City This position requires scheduled/unscheduled overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidays and/or immediate response to emergency conditions. The following duties are illustrative for this position. Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie and Parks and Recreation Department at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations. Schedules and oversees the routine maintenance operations of the golf course. Assists superintendent with the maintenance of entire playing surfaces of golf course, i.e., greens, tees, fairways, slopes, bunkers, practice greens, and driving range. Assists with the maintenance of landscape of main entrance roads, parking lots, and clubhouse. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of the annual budget of the golf course. Oversee the maintenance of aquatic weed control and washout levels of lakes. Assists with the plans, designs, and installs irrigation systems, and drainage systems for golf course. Maintains records and ensures accuracy of all fertilization and pesticide application files. Assists with the maintenance of current irrigation and drainage systems. Assists with the daily maintenance of the clubhouse, restrooms, floors, trash, etc. Other duties as may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associates Degree in a horticulture related field preferred. Minimum of two (2) years progressive experience in maintenance and care of a golf course with an emphasis on irrigation system repair and chemical and fertilization practices required. A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Knowledge of Department and City’s functions as related to policies, procedures, and practices. Knowledge of landscape and turf maintenance, installation, and related equipment. Knowledge of job-related software as required by the Department and Microsoft Word processing software. Skill in operation and preventative maintenance of the tools and equipment related to the position. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, contractors, officials, and the public. Ability to operate farm tractor with spreader and sprayer, self-contained spray unit, electronic master controller, and cutting tools. Ability to operate general office equipment. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to complete daily worksheets and keep records. Ability to supervise crews. Ability to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute and apply rate, ratio, and percent and to draw to practical situations and interpret bar graphs. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
