The UCLA Joint Institute for Regional Earth System Science and Engineering (JIFRESSE) invites applications for a position of Assistant Researcher whose research will focus on the analysis and integration of airborne and spaceborne imaging spectroscopy data to study Earth system processes. This research aims to advance understanding of environmental change through innovative, open, and collaborative remote sensing science.
The research includes the following activities:
• Developing and applying algorithms for analyzing imaging spectroscopy data from airborne and spaceborne platforms.
• Integrating in situ measurements with remote sensing observations to investigate ecosystem structure and function.
• Creating reproducible and open-source workflows for geospatial data processing using Python and related tools.
• Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams across institutions to support NASA flight mission objectives and research goals, specifically related to generating standardized products for vegetation characterization from imaging spectroscopy datasets.
• Designing and delivering instructional materials and tutorials in the use of AVIRIS and EMIT data tailored to a range of technical skill levels.
