Job Summary:
West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) invites applications for a probationary nine-month tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Counseling. WTAMU is a student-centered, learning community dedicated to educating tomorrow’s leaders through innovative academic and co-curricular undergraduate and graduate programs. Applicants must explain how they will actively promote and participate in our student-centered mission, values, and philosophy. The Department of Education is developing innovative teaching strategies in the areas of travel abroad, experiential learning, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to enhance student learning. All applicants must demonstrate a willingness to learn, support, and promote these initiatives.
Work Performed:
+ Teaching counseling courses and other assigned graduate courses through web-based delivery systems, with some optional face-to-face events, as needed.
+ Supervising Clinical Mental Health students during Practicum and Internship
+ Completing weekly in-person office hours
+ Advising and recruiting students
+ Working cooperatively with public/private schools and mental health agencies
+ Maintaining an active research and publication agenda
+ Participating in school and university committees and professional organizations, and other duties as assigned.
+ Contribute to continuous and systematic program assessment
+ A willingness to work in and contribute to a collaborative and collegial work environment
+ Faculty may be asked to teach a class or classes in the summer, dependent upon enrollment and the needs of the program and department.
Necessary Qualifications:
+ An earned doctoral degree in counselor education from a CACREP-accredited counselor education program. (ABD applicants may be considered; however, completion of the degree must occur no later than the beginning of the appointment)
+ Experience supervising counselors-in-training throughout practicum and internship
+ Evidence of experience developing, implementing, and evaluating clinical procedures for counselors-in-training
+ Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or LPC-Associate, or eligible
Preferred Qualifications:
+ An active research agenda with evidence of research and scholarly activities
+ Leadership abilities with the vision to develop and enhance the program
+ Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in educator preparation courses in Counseling in a higher education setting (i.e., university or community college)
+ Evidence of professional service and advocacy in counseling
+ Texas state licensure as an LPC-Supervisor
+ Minimum of 2 years’ experience supervising graduate Counseling programs.
+ Strong working knowledge and understanding of established professional code of ethics and best practices
