Summary of Job Duties:The Clinical Supervising Dentist (Assistant Professor) provides comprehensive, state-mandated oversight of dental hygiene procedures within the clinical education setting. This role is responsible for reviewing and signing patient medical histories, evaluating dental and intra/extra-oral examinations, dental charting, and diagnostic imaging, as well as prescribing and assessing imaging necessary for accurate diagnosis. The Clinical Supervising Dentist establishes diagnoses, develops treatment or referral plans, prescribes medications when appropriate, and supervises the administration of local anesthesia.
This position also directs the management of medical emergencies, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. In addition to clinical supervision, the faculty member may design and teach course(s) within their area of expertise and contribute to curriculum development and program assessment, as needed.
The individual functions with a high level of autonomy, typically receiving minimal instruction for routine tasks and general guidance for new assignments.

Qualifications:
Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree PLUS five (5) years of clinical experience
Current CPR certification
Ability to stand for extended periods during clinical instruction
Eligibility for licensure in the state, if required by position duties
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent experience teaching in a college or academic setting
Additional Information:
Provide state-mandated supervision for approved dental hygiene procedures
Arrive 30 minutes prior to each pre-clinical/clinical session and remain available on the clinic floor throughout the session until all patients are dismissed
Supervise and evaluate all aspects of patient care, including review and approval of medical histories, dental exams, intra/extra-oral exams, charting, and imaging
Prescribe and evaluate intra/extra-oral imaging; grade student technique and identification of pathology and errors
Establish diagnoses and develop dental treatment and referral plans; prescribe medications as needed
Supervise and support students in the administration of local anesthesia
Direct the management of medical emergencies in the clinic setting
Teach course(s) in area(s) of expertise as assigned by the Program Director
Participate in faculty, staff, and calibration meetings
Ensure compliance with CODA accreditation standards and uphold confidentiality of student and patient information
Conduct self professionally and respectfully at all times
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Clinic Coordinator or Program Director
