Position Description

The McGill University Department of Pathology in collaboration with the MUHC Department of Clinical Laboratory Medicine (DCML) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences are inviting applications for a full time Contract Academic Staff position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical) based at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH). The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The McGill University Department of Pathology is committed to offering high-calibre medical education and research training in a wide variety of areas such as carcinogenesis, mechanisms of respiratory diseases, molecular pathology and immunology, neoplasia and cell biology, cell differentiation, biomedical image processing, neurodegenerative disorders, and ophthalmic pathology.


The MUHC DCML is a network of 2,300 employees and 120 doctors. The JGH is a 6,000 employee’s hospital with a comprehensive cancer center (Segal Cancer Centre); its pathology lab processes >40,000 surgical specimens per year and is functionally tightly connected to the molecular genetics labs at the JGH and the Glen-sites. The dermatopathology service signs approximately 15,000 specimens plus consultations. The JGH is a publicly funded organization with a research center (the Lady Davis Institute) and is a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.

Job Duties

The successful candidate is a Pathologist who possesses the highest standards of practice, including prompt delivery of services to match established performance indicators and turn-around times. The incumbent will be expected to actively participate in activities such as quality assurance, quality control, and quality improvement programs. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate medical teaching, as well as in intra-operative consultations.

The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements
 

Candidates must:

Hold an MD degree, and must hold or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;

Be certified by the Royal College Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);

Be a high-level qualified dermatopathologist with relevant dermatopathology experience and/or fellowship;

Have certification in Anatomic Pathology;

Possessing relevant expertise in another field of surgical pathology would be considered an asset;

Have a demonstrable commitment to inclusive pedagogy and excellence in teaching;

Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.
