The University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking a highly qualified candidate to join the Student and Family Philanthropy team as an Assistant or Associate Director of Development. Position Summary
Reporting to the Managing Director of Student and Family Philanthropy, the successful candidate will generate philanthropic support for the Division of Student Affairs (the Division). The Assistant or Associate Director will be responsible for managing a portfolio of current and prospective annual giving and major-gift level donors ($100K+) and developing a comprehensive solicitation and stewardship strategy to move them towards giving levels that achieve yearly and long-range fundraising goals.
Responsibilities
Developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan to include special events, communications, annual campaigns, and major gift strategies.
Travelling nationally to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects.
Collaborating with other fundraisers in the department and across the University in overall relationship building of alumni, parents, and friends to ensure a coordinated approach for prospects and donors and to develop and implement cultivation and solicitation plans.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: At least three years of related experience for Assistant Director, or five years of related experience for the Associate Director level.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education development with a track record of closing five-figure (Assistant) or six-figure (Associate) gifts.
Strong affinity for the student experience at UVA
Exceptional communication skills, a high degree of personal integrity and the ability to keep the big picture in focus while attending to the small details.
Demonstrated record of sound judgment and professionalism
Experience using data to evaluate and plan.
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs. The successful candidate must be able to travel frequently and be available for occasional evening and weekend work.
Salary Range (optional)
The anticipated hiring range is $60,000–$67,000, for Assistant Director and $70,000-$77,000 for Associate Director commensurate with education and experience.

This is a restricted position, which is dependent on funding and is contingent upon funding availability.
External Affairs at UVA, which includes Advancement, offers a flexible and hybrid workplace. All team members must have access to and maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service and be able to work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools. Depending on the type of position and work performed, or as deemed by the manager, some positions may be required to work intermittently in our shared office space located in Charlottesville, Virginia. This hybrid position can be worked remotely, although frequent in-person work in our office building, on UVA Grounds, or at event venues is required. The successful candidate will live within driving distance of Charlottesville, Virginia.
