Morrisons is the UK's single largest food manufacturer and the only retailer that operates its own processing sites. This means the company is responsible for stocking both its shelves and its manufacturing sites. As a unique business, Morrisons curates, arranges, and buys everything from raw materials like flour and meat to everyday products for customers. The company negotiates prices and ensures they can sell as much as possible. The teams also examine product packaging and quality to help decide where products will be placed in stores. The impact of each buying team is huge, as each category accounts for a percentage of the overall £12 billion turnover from supermarket sales alone. Teams work in embedded business units, where buyers sit with their supply chain, finance, and technical counterparts to make quick decisions and take action. The teams even have joint targets to unify their mission of serving customers.
