Job Description

Perform professional accounting work, including compilation, consolidation, and analysis of financial data. The role requires an understanding of accounting fundamentals and principles, as well as experience in bookkeeping. Responsibilities may include any or all of the following: ledgers and preparation of journal entries, fixed asset or inventory accounting, preparation of trial balance or financial statements, cost accounting, bank account reconciliation.

Role overview

Reporting to the Financial Accountant, this role is in the Finance Department and is responsible for providing administrative and technical support to the Financial Accountant role.   

Key Result Areas

Key responsibilities will include amongst others the following:

Compiles and populates records to Trial Balance level.Prepare control accounts reconciliations.Prepares draft income statement and balance sheet.Accurate preparation of reconciliations – Payroll, intercompany, Bank and control accounts reconciliations.Weekly supplier payments and reconciliations.Third Parties payments and reconciliations.Cashflow forecast.Monitoring expenses against budget.Preparing monthly accruals – audit fees, prepayments, and other accruals.Tax and sustainability reporting.Prepare supplier age analysis dashboard.Bank account user maintenance.Manage Fixed Assets- From requisition of assets to disposal and depreciation of the assets.Updating Fixed Asset register every month and ensuring that all assets acquired, disposals and depreciation amounts are correctly updated in the        fixed asset register every month end.Prepare balance sheet reconciliation-compare fixed asset register to balances of both the asset accounts and accumulated depreciation accounts on the trial balance.Preparing budget variance reports and discuss them with the different department’s managers.Capturing all movements in bank accounts into pastel for the month and reconciling to bank statements. Ensure timely accurate upload to Pastel.

Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfil personal potential. Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.

Qualifications and Experience required

Specific skills & experience required:

Tertiary BCom / BTech Degree majoring in Accounting, Finance or related qualification3 years of experience in a similar position
