Job Overview:

This is a Full-time, Assistant Director Pharmacist role based within the Pharmacy Department of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center located in Livingston, NJ. The Assistant Director supports the Pharmacy Director in overseeing the daily operations of the pharmacy department. This role ensures efficient, safe, and compliant medication management practices while fostering a patient-centered, teaching-focused environment. The Assistant Director plays a key leadership role in enhancing pharmacy services, supporting interprofessional education, and advancing operational excellence to meet the needs of both the local community and academic mission.

Qualifications:

Required:

Completion of course at an accredited School of Pharmacy, with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmDMinimum of 5 years of hospital experience with 2 years of Pharmacy Management experience in an inpatient hospital settingNJBOP Immunization licensure, within 6 months

Preferred:

Strong financial acumenMinimum 1 year experience in sterile compoundingBoard Certification through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties

Certifications and Licenses Required:

Registration in New Jersey as a pharmacist; current New Jersey licensure required and must be in good standing with NJBOP

Scheduling Requirements:

FT5 hours/weekRotated on-call responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Support the Director in managing all pharmacy operations, including inpatient, outpatient, and decentralized servicesStands in for the Director as appropriateEnsure compliance with hospital policies, state and federal regulations, and accreditation standards, which includes The Joint Commission, NJBOP, DOH, DEA and participates in regulatory reviews and auditsOversee inventory management, automation systems, medication procurement, and cost containment strategiesManages the diversion prevention program and monitors controlled substance reviews and auditsSupervise pharmacy staff and promote a collaborative, high-performance cultureCoordinate daily workflow to ensure timely medication dispensing, delivery, and clinical supportFacilitate staff development through education, competency assessments, and performance evaluationsLead and participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and operational efficiency initiatives, both locally and corporatelyServe as a preceptor and mentor to pharmacy students and residents, supporting experiential education programsContribute to strategic planning, budgeting, productivity review, and operational reportingMembership on committees within the medical center and corporatelyAct as liaison to nursing, medical staff, and academic partners on pharmacy-related matters,Reports to the Director of Pharmacy and manages a team of 6
