Position Summary:

We are looking for a forward-thinking Assistant Director of Maintenance to join our growing team. In this leadership role, you will oversee the maintenance and repair of key facilities, ensuring they provide a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for the entire campus community. You will manage a multi-million dollar budget for a large complex of buildings encompassing over 1MM SF of space. Your leadership will shape how our team collaborates to deliver high-quality services while focusing on safety, sustainability, and efficiency.

Essential Functions

Lead and Empower Teams: Supervise and mentor a diverse team of Trades staff, promoting a culture of respect, collaboration, and inclusivity. Inspire your team to perform at their best while fostering their growth and career development. Daily Operations Oversight: Manage day-to-day operations with the Trades staff, including monitoring attendance and overtime, and ensuring timely follow-up on daily work orders. Asset Management: Update asset information and history in the CMMS (Verify), and track asset downtime and repair costs to support data-driven decision-making. Vendor Coordination: Manage vendor interactions for plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC services, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness. Project Oversight: Provide project management oversight for repair-related initiatives, ensuring timely and compliant execution. Technical Subject Matter Expert: Lead problem-solving efforts and root cause analysis for complex mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire life safety systems. Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Attend management meetings with the client, ABM management team, and Trades staff (daily/weekly), and work closely with various departments to coordinate maintenance and repair work while minimizing operational disruptions. Budget and Resource Management: Manage budgets, ensuring projects are completed within financial constraints. Oversee procurement of high-quality and cost-effective materials and supplies. Compliance and Safety: Ensure all maintenance operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as ABM’s quality control policies. Lead the way in promoting a safe and secure working environment. Reporting and Data Analysis: Provide regular updates on maintenance operations, including progress reports, financial data, and performance metrics.

Qualifications

Valid Connecticut trade license (e.g., S, P, or E license) required. EPA 608 Universal Certification preferred. 5+ years of experience in facilities management, with a focus on higher education or large-scale multi-building/campus environments. Proven leadership experience, with strong team-building and motivational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with experience working with diverse stakeholders, including staff, students, faculty, and external vendors. Strong project management skills with experience in planning and executing large-scale maintenance projects. Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and budgeting principles. Strong analytical abilities including extensive experience with Microsoft suite of programs including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
