Assistant Director of HVAC
Assistant Director of HVAC **Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):** Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of a degree, four (4) years of directly related full-time experience, and/or a combination of higher education and experience totaling four (4) years, may be considered. Four (4) years of directly related full-time professional experience with commercial and residential HVAC systems. Supervisory experience. Experience troubleshooting HVAC equipment and system problems. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. **(***Out-of-State Applicants, see "Special Notes”).** **Preferred Qualifications:** Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Additional years (5 ) of directly related full-time professional experience with commercial and residential HVAC systems. Experience writing comprehensive reports and/or detailed analyses. Experience formulating and managing projects from conception to completion, including budgeting. Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Experience working in a large academic setting or a similar facility. **Brief Description of Duties:** The Assistant Director of HVAC provides leadership and technical support for HVAC staff to ensure reliable system operation and emergency response. Oversee system performance, maintenance planning, and project management, including contractor coordination and capital improvements. Drive’s campus energy and sustainability initiatives by managing reduction projects, securing funding, and monitoring utility data. Manage work orders, preventive maintenance, and after-hours support to maintain safe and efficient HVAC operations. + **Technical Oversight & Staff Support:** + Lead and support HVAC staff in resolving complex system issues, particularly during emergencies. Guide troubleshooting of equipment failures, alarms, and climate control concerns. Provide training to enhance staff skills and ensure consistent problem-solving methods. Oversee daily operations and system functionality in compliance with University and regulatory standards. + **System Management & Planning:** + Monitor HVAC system status and performance. Collaborate with contractors and engineers on equipment specifications, procurement, and troubleshooting. Conduct inspections, plan maintenance, and prioritize HVAC tasks. Identify capital project needs, develop scopes of work, and implement strategies to improve energy efficiency and system reliability. + **Energy and Sustainability Management:** + Collaborate on campus-wide energy and sustainability initiatives focused on HVAC systems, data monitoring, and efficient energy reporting. Lead energy reduction projects aligned with the Clean Energy Master Plan, coordinating with leadership and stakeholders to track progress and meet goals. Research and pursue grants, incentives, and funding opportunities for energy projects. Assist with budgeting and procurement related to energy management. Monitor and analyze utility usage to identify and address anomalies. + **Project & Contractor Oversight:** + Develop specifications, estimates, and AutoCAD drawings for HVAC projects. Oversee contractor work, manage bids, review invoices, and maintain service records. Coordinate emergency responses and ensure project timelines and quality standards are met. + **Maintenance & Work Order Management:** + Manage HVAC work orders and documentation. Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for all equipment. Ensure systems are operating safely and reliably, and mechanical rooms are well-maintained. Support after-hours emergency response and ensure availability of tools and resources. + **Other Duties:** + Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission. **Special Notes:** This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption. In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly. **Essential Position:** This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed.
