Assistant Director for Student Programs AS6552
The Assistant Director f or Student Programs will provide strategic and transformational oversight in empowering student leaders and continue to ensure that Stetson University is a vibrant, relationship-rich campus. The Assistant Director is primarily responsible for providing leadership and guidance for all organized student activities and campus-wide events, including directly advising Hatter Productions, our student programming board, the Homecoming Committee, and Hatter Network. I n addition, this position will be responsible for ensuring engaging activities occur during evening and weekends. I n alignment with Stetson’s Strategic Priorities (https://www.stetson.edu/other/about/media/sp-brochure.pdf) , t his position will be a champion for engagement and belongingness, empowering students to connect with one another through their transitions into college life and beyond .  This position works in partnership with the Director and Assistant Director for Student Organization s and Union Operations to foster a community of belonging. This position is a full-time position with some evening and weekend responsibilities.  ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties include, but are not limited to the following: + Serve as a champion for vibrancy and tradition at Stetson University through strong student advising and campus programming model grounded in theory + Advise Stetson’s student programming group, Hatter Productions programming team which is responsible for all large-scale university-wide programming for Stetson + Advise and coordinate the Homecoming Committee, encouraging creative ideas for programs and events during Homecoming Week that foster community, belonging, and tradition + Manage key Homecoming traditions, including program management, Homecoming Court, and the infusion of Stetson’s history into marketing and events + Work in partnership with Alumni Engagement and Event Services on Homecoming initiatives aimed at both students and alumni + Encourage and shift the culture to capitalize on weekend programming, to offer activities and engagement opportunities to students throughout the entirety of the week + Create and implement additional department programming initiatives ranging from small-scale to large-scale events to offer students experiences that foster relationships and connection + Build strong relationships with student leaders in efforts to empower department student programs to play an active role in the growth and enhancement of our community, fostering connection and belonging + Support Student Media initiatives through advising of Hatter Network, which includes The Reporter (Stetson’s news magazine), Touchstone (literary arts journal), and W-HAT Radio + Assist with the development and implementation of SDCV department led initiatives, including, but not limited to large scale programming, assisting with orientation sessions, and fostering collaborative opportunities with campus partners + Serve as a liaison for Athletics to strategize and to help advise events, games, and tournaments to encourage student attendance and spirit at Hatter athletic events + Work with the Homecoming committee, Hatter Productions, and Hatter Network to prepare and present their full budget requests to the SGA Finance committee annually + Supervise a Graduate Assistant and student employees that support the area, assigning and tracking responsibilities and duties + Perform other duties and serve on department, division, and university committees as assigned Required Skills + Excellent verbal and written communication skills + Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, families, alumni, and the public in a comprehensive university environment + Ability to be flexible in one’s work assignments + Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in writing and oral presentations + Ability to plan and organize one’s work + Ability to work independently with little supervision + Ability to work effectively in a team + Ability to manage complex high-level budgets and willingness and flexibility to work some evenings and weekends + Support the University’s Mission and Values (https://www.stetson.edu/other/about/mission-and-values.php) in their role Required Experience + A master’s degree in student development, counseling, student affairs, or related field with a minimum of two to three years of professional, full-time, experience; however, a bachelor’s degree and commensurate experience is required + Experience supervising student leaders, developing and running small- to large-scale events, coordinating significant logistics, and experience with budget and financial processes + Desire to join a distinct university community committed to inclusive excellence, kindness, and collaboration, as it seeks to move Forward Together in making our community and world a better place Ideal Candidate Qualifications: + A colleague with a strong desire to work at a small, private institution committed to a liberal learning environment + A successful candidate will possess high energy, be a proven creative problem solver with strong written and verbal communication skills, a commitment to enhancing diversity, and a track record of high productivity and job performance + A commitment and an ability to create effective partnerships and engage students in the learning process through programs and personal contact Work Environment: This position is based in the Carlton Union Building, a dynamic and collaborative campus hub. The work is primarily performed in a professional office setting with frequent interaction with students, staff, and campus partners. The environment is student-facing and team-oriented, requiring strong interpersonal and communication skills. The noise level is generally moderate, consistent with a busy student center. The temperature is climate-controlled, and the workspace is equipped with standard office technology. Some lifting of materials up to 20 pounds may be required during event setup or office organization. This role may occasionally require evening and weekend hours to support campus events or student programming. Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) may be considered based on departmental needs and supervisor approval. Salary Grade: 5
