**Position Description:**
As an Assistant Director for Financial Aid, you will play a vital role in assisting students and their families in navigating the complex landscape of financial aid and funding options for higher education. Your primary responsibility will be to provide comprehensive guidance, support, and resources to help students achieve their educational goals without being burdened by excessive financial stress. You will serve as a knowledgeable and empathetic resource, addressing inquiries, offering personalized advice, and ensuring that students are well-informed about the various financial aid programs available to them. In addition, serving as a senior leadership member, you assist with student and family escalations while also managing a team of Advisors. This would include completing performance evaluations, training, assistance prioritizing work, reporting on progress and success and suggesting improvements for the team and its work.

**Major/Essential Functions:**
+ Assist in training new staff and work-study students. Mentor staff towards long term professional development goals. Develops and delivers comprehensive training program including financial aid fundamentals, college policy and regulatory changes and provide assessment to ensure mastery of required knowledge and skills of existing and new staff.
+ Manages all compliance activities including the development, documentation, updating, and validation of all procedures and policies. Develops, implements and maintains quality assurance mechanisms to determine adherence to state and federal aid regulations.
+ Participate in professional development, trainings, and conferences.
+ Perform monthly Pell and Direct Loan reconciliation, and G5 reporting.
+ Conducts and directs internal financial aid audits and file review using discretion and independent judgement to ensure compliance with the Title IV Program, Federal, and state regulations and create corrective plans and training based on findings.
+ In collaboration with Director, monitor Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and Financial Aid Progress; counsel students accordingly and as needed.
+ Provide escalated financial aid support for prospective, admitted, and enrolled students; analyze and update financial aid packages to maintain accuracy and audit compliance as needed.
+ Perform regular internal audits of student eligibility and processing of files, including but not limited to reviewing student aid offers, federal verification, return to Title IV calculations, enrollment level changes, over-awarded records, cleared SAR C-flags, and other file review processes as identified.
+ Represent the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships on internal and external audits, including liaise with state auditors, federal program reviewers, and collaborate with university stakeholders.
+ Review satisfactory academic progress outcomes and oversee appeals committee to ensure adherence to policy.
+ Supervise the compliance team of program managers in their oversight of respective funding programs.
+ Alert the Director of Financial Aid Operations and AVP of any compliance concerns, whether internal to the department or with university stakeholders, with the intent of resolving.

**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Master's degree
+ Prior Banner experience or a similar ERP solution
+ Prior supervisory and staff development experience
+ Ability to evaluate and implement new technologies
+ Knowledge of financial aid leveraging methods and business processes
+ Thorough understanding of federal and state aid rules and regulations
+ Knowledge of USDE systems including COD, CPS/FPS, NSLDS, SAIG Enrollment, etc.

Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Three years of related administrative and technician experience. Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
