Job Overview:

The Assistant Director manages the Environmental and Patient Transport Departments. Establishes policies and procedures, objectives and work standards. Maintains quality control and compliance with regulatory agencies. Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors, etc. Insure the department is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.

Qualifications:

Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent experienceKnowledge of hospital operations and specific kinds of housekeepingThorough knowledge of housekeeping equipment, supplies, chemicals agentsManagement and supervisory skillsSufficient administrative experience in a hospital or similar setting

Preferred:

BA/BS DegreeCourses in Management or Hospital Housekeeping

Essential Functions:

Develops and maintains job descriptions for departmental staffInterviews, selects, promotes and terminates staff per established policiesEnsures that disciplinary process in administered per policyResolves staff grievancesInvestigates and evaluates new housekeeping supplies and equipment and makes recommendations to administrationProvides coverage to the Director as neededMakes recommendations concerning painting, repairs, furnishings, furniture, relocation of equipment, and allocation of space to improve sanitation, appearance and efficiencyPlans, organizes, directs, coordinates and supervises functions and activities of the Environmental Services DepartmentInspects and evaluates the physical condition of the hospitalMaintains positive relationships with all customers, employee, physician, patient, visitor, and guestsUtilizes a variety of feedback to improve processes and services to meet and exceed customer needsUses sound employee relations practices and maintains high levels of visibility and accessibilityFollows though on all customer requests and inquiries in a timely fashionUtilizes principles of CQI in all work situationsSeeks feedback and recommendations from others to improve the quality, processes and servicesContributes to improving quality services and productivity (takes the initiative to continually evaluate one’s work, report problems, suggest solutions and try new ideas)Effectively allocates and schedules resourcesAble to project and appropriately staff the unit/department to effectively function to demandUtilizes resources, both labor and non-labor to maximize efficiency and qualityAdheres to budgetary guidelines and targets-proactively manages budget variances and causesDetermines priorities and organizes work and time to meet themFollows sound employee retention techniques; effective selection and
