The successful Assistant Delivery Manager (IM) will be a competent and enthusiastic individual, responsible for safe, on time and on budget delivery of all Colas Rail Infrastructure Monitoring train services nationwide. They will ensure high levels of quality and reliability against key KPIs and ensure both their colleagues and customers get the best possible service. They will assist the Delivery Manager (IM) in providing day to day first line management and support to all train crew staff within the nominated region and thrive in an ever-changing environment.
Person SpecificationBe a confident and outgoing individual who can act as a role model to both office based and operational colleagues. Have well practiced communication skills and to be able to apply them in different ways to get the best from differing audiences and situations. Desire a role which changes daily, requiring them to learn and develop an array of different skills and experience. Have an interest in working with and managing people to get the best from them, whilst showing them the respect they deserve. Have a desire to split their time between office based responsibilities and site based visits/cab rides. Act as an example of excellent H&S standards, both in principle and practically when out on the network. Be a proven team player with a pragmatic approach and logical mindset Have good general IT capabilities Have a basic familiarisation and/or interest in traction, rolling stock and the wider railway industry. Have a sound commercial awareness and an ability to demonstrate this through cost control and management of commercial data. Key Responsibilities
Safety
To manage the thorough investigation, reporting and close-out of all accidents and incidents within their designated regions in a professional and timely manner, working closely with Safety team. Download locomotive OTDR and arrange for competent staff to interrogate and write up assessments in line with deadlines. Undertake and log regular Safety Inspections and ensure actions are closed out in a timely fashion. Undertake and write up regular risk assessments of problematic locations, as directed by the Delivery Manager. Undertake and log regular face to face safety briefs and fitness for duty checks.
Quality
Responsible for identifying training needs, route and traction learning requirements for operational staff, with assistance of, Driving Standards Manager, and PD/DI’s. Implement the plans by liaising with training and rostering departments. Liaise with the Freight Operations Standards department to ensure staff trainings, competence, and assessments are managed and maintained up to date. Liaise with control for real time operations of all train services in the designated region. Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders by all available communication devices and means. Attend customer performance and contract review meetings when required Active and effective relationship with ASLEF union. Attend monthly Operations Interface Meeting (OIM) with SCO and LORAM as required Participate in daily, weekly and periodical production meetings as required Participate in periodical route learning and planning meetings with IM planning and rostering team. Develop Methods of Working and Risk Assessments for new flows & review existing documents regularly, liaising with Safety and Standards team
Profitability
Responsible to monitor and control all operational cost against approved budget, along with DM and BDM. Responsible to drive operational efficiencies, by closely working with BDM, Engineering and support functions.
